I don't really like Shihad much.

Our list totally kicks ass. I don't expect/want you to like it AE because your taste in music is lame. Things are improving all the time, is your TV from 1968? Because my TV is from 2003, a really swell year for both TV production and music. I'd rather listen to today's good music because it will obviously be better than the good music in 1912 or whenever you were born. It's called progress man.

I also doubt you've heard most if any of the songs on the official best songs list.

No, it sucks arse.

beagle, the artists on the list I posted, from nearly 30 years ago, have probably outsold the artists on your list, conservatively by 100 to 1. Maybe closer to 1,000 to 1.

That would probably mean that your list is weak as piss music that will be forgotten quickly.

Come back in 30 years and see if people remember Queen, AC/DC, The Eagles or anyone on your list you care to choose.

Some of the programs are.

Some of the best programs on TV are from that era. Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, MASH etc will still be playing long after the best of your era has been forgotten.

As for the music from 1968, try....

White Room - Cream
Magic Carpet ride - Steppenwolf
All along the Watchtower - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Hey Jude - The Beatles
Valleri - The Monkees
Pictures of Matchstick Men - Status Quo
Mrs. Robinson - Simon and Garfunkel
Jumpin' Jack Flash - Rolling Stones
Do it Again - Beach Boys
I've Gotta get a message to you - Bee Gees
I say a little prayer - Aretha Franklin
Conquistador - Procol Harum

Again, that list, from one year makes your list look like what it is.... sweet f**k all.

Good for you. Musically, 2003 was a toilet. Hey Ya was about the only song I could stomach that I heard on the radio.

Sure, but you haven't heard the older stuff, you just assume that you won't like it.

Fact is that no mater how much you huff and puff, music's best eras are long past yet the music still remains today. It still sells mainly because the pap played today isn't a patch on what moulded it.

I've heard a couple of them. I actually like some newer music like Tool, Tea Party, VAST, Butterfly Effect etc, but if I ever found a song on a list that you liked that I liked, I'd have to re-evaluate my whole existence.

Who says selling albums was the test of an artist's quality? If that was the case, Kid Rock would be a musical genius and the Spice Girls are the best ever.

Dude, none of the songs on the list are likely to ever make the radio, that's the whole point.

Sure, but you haven't heard the older stuff, you just assume that you won't like it.

Yes, I've heard every single song on your list because they are regurgitated cliche's by old codgers with no real knowledge. Anyone with real appreciation would look past the songs on the radio, since when is the hit song the best song? 99% of the time it isn't. Just because a song is marketable doesn't make it good.

Fact is that no mater how much you huff and puff, music's best eras are long past yet the music still remains today. It still sells mainly because the pap played today isn't a patch on what moulded it.

Once again, you're totally clueless. If you listen to 104.9 all day and you think this is the guage of today's music, you are digging yourself a hole in this argument. You'd struggle to find any quality, hearing aid or not.

Yeh, those bands suck.

That's funny, Apart from Tool, those bands are regurgitated cliche commercial gobshite rock.

c_eagle's list is far better because it doesn't resemble a Music Max special.

Kid Rock?

Wasn't he famous for being in Joe Dirt?

And the Spice Girls lack something most artists in my list have, longevity. They're far more likely to be in one of your lists than mine.

No it isn't. You seem to think that being popular shouldn't be part of the criteria for being in a "best ever" list when it obviously is.

Your post wasn't suggesting that it was just you and half's favourite 12 songs. If you had presented it in that manner, it would have made sense. Ok, it would have dropped off the page quicker than Pamela Anderson's knickers did in the Tommy Lee tape but it would have been an honest discussion instead of the farce this has become.

Sure, but you haven't heard the older stuff, you just assume that you won't like it.

You kill your own argument.

You've heard them because people want to hear them. They're played because people want to hear them. They want to hear them twenty and thirty years after they were made.

There is absolutely no chance that the stuff you posted will be popular 10 years from now, let alone 20 or 30.

You're getting eras confused.

In the 1960's and 1970's (excluding Disco) it was mostly about the music. There wasn't the absolute necessity to be marketable via looks etc then as there is now.

Fact is that no mater how much you huff and puff, music's best eras are long past yet the music still remains today. It still sells mainly because the pap played today isn't a patch on what moulded it.

Twat, I don't listen to 104.9, I don't listen to any radio station for music except WSFM very occasionally. I don't generally bother because I could supply thmem their playlist.

What I have is 3 sons, all teenagers who play music like all teenagers do.

They play as much Led Zeppelin and Slade as they do A Perfect Circle or Simple Plan.

I've heard a couple of them. I actually like some newer music like Tool, Tea Party, VAST, Butterfly Effect etc, but if I ever found a song on a list that you liked that I liked, I'd have to re-evaluate my whole existence.

You're a tone-deaf trainspotter with the musical taste of a sock.

beagle's list is a wank. It's a crapfest of underwhelming audio nonsense.

And seriously, you twats seem to think that a song is only good if it:

A) Doesn't get airplay.
B) Doesn't get the clip played.

That's geniused. If one of the songs on beagle's list suddenly gets mega airplay, it'll be scratched off his list.

Sane?

Hardly.

What's the difference between my favourite songs and the best songs of all time? If they are my favourite obviously I think they are the best.

As for songs being on the radio because people want to hear them, what a load of crap, *cough* Australian Idol *cough*. Talk about cramming cheap, plastic music down the throats of the general public.

You just don't get it EA, you probably don't even own Zeppelin 2, 3 or 4, you just know that Stairway to Heaven is popular so you stick it in your list.

And Wings, lmfao, McCartney is embaressed of Wings, they are that aweful.

c_eagle makes a point. It's his top twelve. He doesn't state it's 'the greatest twelve songs of all time', just that he and half (who writes good F7's articles, but everything else is tripe) have finally come to some kind of agreement on their favourite songs. Hoorah for them. Now they don't need to bicker when they're planning what to do their first dance as Mr. and Mrs. Bad Taste in music to.

Dude, didn't I read that you were a huge Maroon 5 fan? If it's true, you probably should leave this section of the forum immedietly.

Uhh.. I'm preaching good music man, awesome music even. I don't mind getting criticised, but since the criticism comes from people who haven't even heard most of the tracks listed, it's a bit weak.

Mate, I'm not a huge Maroon 5 fan, so your point is um..... pointless. I've enjoyed maybe two of their songs.

You're preaching 'awesome music'? I'll cut you a deal. I'll find and listen to your top twelve. If I still think they're shit, I'm going to make you listen to Ann Lee's '2 Times' until your dying day. Or maybe something from Fiddler on the Roof?
