We have dozens of pages about the performance of a winger and a centre last Friday.

There has been deafening silence about the performance of the halfback.

Some of the kicking options led almost directly to tries. His skills under pressure broke down (has any other first grade player thrown so many passes along the ground to nobody, had so many kicks charged down or out on the full?)

Is he running the ball? Making inroads with ball in hand?

Creating space for players outside? Organising the forwards? Offering fifth tackle options? Controlling field position and possession?

IMO we are missing an enormous amount in this position.

Does anyone styrongly disagree, or can convince me otherwise?

I know Finch has a good attacking high kicking game. And with Inu Hayne and Reddy all capable of leaping, this could be an asset. But the other aspects of his game?

mmm - tbh i thought he had a poor game on fri .... near the end i was thinking, **** i hardly remember seeing him .... i guess feleti took the main role

Finch was very very quiet on Friday, i though Mateo was almost running the show...Considering this i dont think he went to bad...i think Mateo has it in him TBH....

I barely noticed finch out there either, Mateo seemed to take more control of the game.

finch was ok at best on friday but as pointed out earlier in the thread, mateo seemed to take control and that may have been why finch seemed quiet.

one thing i will say though is that the last few games finch's long kicking has been off. earlier in the year he was regularly finding open space and almost every kick had a good chase. not the case recently.

maybe you should look at the bigger picture and tell me who's the better option?? because I'd be flat out naming 1 other halfback other than Prince, Thurston and Cronk that offers the sort of service that you're looking for..

Matthew Head would be a better option at half. But that aint gonna happen....

I beg to differ...

Granted, Finch is a better defender and does a lot of little things better than Head, but I think Head has a better kicking and passing game.

btw, is he signed yet???

Dunno. He would have come cheaper than Finch - giving us a bit of cap room to move. But whats done is done :lol:

Finch never has been and probably never will be a dominant halfback. He is always best when partnered with a dominant player such as when he was with Freddy at the roosters and last year with Timmy. He just organises the team and does the 1%ers that all of his supporters love him for. Kind of like another version of Johnny Morris.
That's what i think anyway.
And i don't think many people have missed him having poor games, just sick of saying the same thing over and over i guess.
Fact is Finch will be out half for at least the rest of this year and i would say next year as well. after that he may be moved into a different role but get used to it for a while

could he be a good option for number 9? im not convinced i like matt keating and think he could play 80 mins as well. It was more the way you phrased your reply.
