Halfback 2008 onwards

Sorry to put a dampner on your hopes guys!! But I have spoken to Wades manager a few times this year, the last being on the weekend, and he is adamant that his future is in the backrow at lock. He is a big boy and thus doesnt have the acute speed required of a halfback at the higher levels, though with his build and strength apparently he will shift in to the no.13 in the not too distant furture!

That's what I thought. Lacked a bit of speed and footwork. Will make a good lock forward down the track.

I thought when they annouced he could negotiate that he was still likely to be with the club next season if only because at that late stage no club could afford to fit him under the cap.

He is staying as far as I know.

My point was that even though he said publically that he was staying, and he has returned to 1st grade and has been playing great, on numerous recent threads, when people have been naming their choice of teams for next season, most of them still don't include Priddis, and when they list our hookers, he keeps being left out.

It's as if most fans are assuming he won't be there next season, or that they don't want him there, and I don't understand why.

Rhys Wesser isn't a big bloke, I think about 5'8" and 85kgs, but he is very strong and can make the one on one tackles when he has to.

I think some people are forgetting that Rhys Wesser was nowhere near the player he is now in either size, weight, or skill level when he first started at Penrith.

He has built up over many years......as has Bowen and every other small player in the game eg Presto, Hodgson etc......none of them started out as strong or fast or clever as they are now.

So I think comparing Sammut directly to any of them now is unfair.

Give him a break. He has only just started out in the big time, and is still very young, and still developing physically, mentally and emotionally.

No-one can be sure where he will be in any area of his game in even the next 12 months, let alone in years to come.

I'm not saying he will never make it in FG, but he will definately need to put some size on and work on his tackling technique, to that he can be effective.

Remember Alfie Langer, modified his technique, albeit highly illegal, where he used his legs to sweep the legs out from underneath his opponents?

I'm not saying Sammut needs to do that, but with his diminished size, he may need to stray away from the text book tackle and modify his style so as to become more effective.

Good luck to him anyway. I like the fact that none of the other players will go into the showers while he's in there. I think that in itself is v v funny.

I expect Wade Graham to play in SG Ball come the start of next season. He is not ready for the Under Twenties or higher at this stage. Give the kid time.
