So in the papers sterlo is worried about us not buying a half.I would agree it would be nice to get a good 7or 6.But who is out there atm worth getting? good halves tend to get pretty long term contracts so are there any halves out there worth a 3 year deal?.
The positives at this stage that i see is cory is very good at running our attack so ill be happy for clint just to play a soild support role for when cory is tackled late in the set.
The main positive i see is last year was the first time in a long time that teams didnt base there attack on running at our halve to score some very simple trys.
I really think we will have enough attacking flair in our squad but i really think our D in the halves is going to be a massive positive and a stand out.

Agreed about the defence. By the end of last season Gutherson was in the elite class of defensive backs. We will win games off the back of that alone. Penrith have some great attacking players and could only manage one try in 60 minutes at home last week.

Attack will be fine, we now have a play maker in the fullback role and more attacking middle forwards.

Gutherson will handle the defensive side fine as mentioned above.

My only concern is our long kicking game, if Norman is our sole kicker, he is too easy to target!!

His short kicking game was much better last year. But I agree he's not the bloke you want to be primary kicker.

Widdop is the guy we will chase should the Gutho experiment fail. Even if Gutho is successful in the 6 Im not sure he could run the side if Norman is absent. Goal kicker, good general play kicker, good defender and a great organiser especially behind strong forwards. Widdop is our man I reckon.

I do envision an offer tabled to both Nofoaluma and Moses halfway through the year if things are going a little shaky. We have bags of money to spend and they would cover positions potentially in need. Quite conveniently they are also both Parra juniors. Wag the carrot in front of them together and it suddenly becomes more enticing. To my understanding the Tigers are already struggling to juggle their cap and come 2018 they will be definitely going all out to re-sign Tedesco and will likely do the same for Woods.

If this were to happen though I have no idea where Gutho would fit in from thereon in.

100%

I want Gutherson in the centres. Takairangi has some mad skills but I feel he's wasted at centre, and his defence can be iffy. Get Taka into the second row.

IMO Gutherson is one of those players that can cover most backline positions and do a ok job but will never be a specialist.

Well said Gaz. Couldn't agree more.

Who do you leave out out of Edwards, Mau, Tep/Scott?
Whoever's injured or on rep duty. The chances if all four guys veing available to fill all four positions each and every week is pretty slim.

With the 21 man squad named on Tuesdays, coaches will be able to rotate and give players a one game breather here and there, without it looking like they've been dropped.

That's a hell of a lot of cap space to invest on 5/6 positions with at least one sitting on the sidelines every week. At best that's the lowest paid players entire salary on the sideline.

Back into the centres, surely?

I like Gutherson solid player, but IMO we are not a top 8 team if he plays at 5/8. Don't think he's up to it.

Quit worrying Chicken Little.

We were a top 8 team last season with him being the primary half for the back end of the season.
He'll do just fine as secondary playmaker.
Watch his game develop this season - he's one of the guys I'm least worried about.
