Halves

Where do you guys see our halves over the next few years?

I think we have a pretty clear picture of what our outside backs and forwards will look like for the medium term with the guys we have in grade now being complimented by the Jennings, Blake, Smith, Saunders, RCG, Anderson etc. In that sense, outside of a few signings and guys who don't kick on, we should have a pretty reliable progression of our squad over the next 5 years.

I find it kind of hard to see what the plan is for our halves though.
We have Soward for 3 more years which should pretty much be the end of him.
Wallace for 2. John I can't see being the long term answer although a superb back up.
Moylan is an option but when? Scarlett? Do we recruit a big name?

I tend to think if there is a plan to get Moylan into the halves it needs to happen in 2016. Give him a few years with Sowie before he needs to steer the ship as the dominant half. Wallace can be there as back up for leadership and depth in case things go pearshaped. Then the question is is Scarlett an option for 2017/18, is there another guy coming through or are we going to be looking to the market.

We haven't produced an elite half since Gower with a lot (Siejka, Sammut, Graham, Austin, Wallace) since then not proving to be the answer.

Moylan is far better suited to 6 then 1 with his skill set and hopefully we see him in the halves for a game or 2 this year

Ivan has said Moylan could def play in the halves but he has to work on a few things in his game first, his kicking game being the biggest issue.

While we have Wallace and Soward in a good place as well there's no huge rush. We are also waiting on DWZ being ready to slot into fullback.

Moylan looks to be a future half. He's partner is a tough one Scarlett looks good but needs a run of injury free footy. May will be in NYC will be better to judge him then. Cleary also could be an option

Ah yes forgot about that option.
I think his game could suit Soward well but longer term we'd have an average kicking game between Moyza and Api. Plenty of time to work on it though I guess.

That's why it's good we have Sowie for 3 more years. Gives us time to find his replacement and also get him to pass on tactics etc

Moylan can crack a decent field goal, with time, coaching & practice there is no reason his general kicking cant be ramped up a few notches. Not sure if Api possesses a kicking game.
