I don't believe the Matai shoulder charge connected with the head, spectacular though it was. The player (Watene-Zelezniak) was fine afterwards (and trust me if DWZ had been hit high I would be screaming louder than anyone). The Rabbitohs player was wobbly and bleeding from the nose. That was the difference. Perhaps this needed to be spelt out by the review panel when not charging Matai so that impressionable young thugs like Napa don't incorrectly think you are now allowed to maim your opponents.

So it's the result and not the act that matters? I'm pretty sure that's not how it works... if you spear tackle a guy and he manages to brace himself for the impact and gets up ok, you still get rubbed out for weeks. Matai should have copped at least two weeks - it was late and he didn't come close to wrapping his arms around him.

Sadly an injury means longer suspension. Tackles that are not even penalised 90% of the time become huge suspensions when a player is hurt.

Just look at Jordan McLean for his tackle on McKinnon, and the tackle that Reynolds missed no weeks for in Origin 1. If Brent Tate was hurt, Reynolds would be gone for 7+ weeks minimum. No injury, no worries.
