Hating Manly

My favourite anti-Manly rant was by a Cronulla fan who has still not forgiven the Sea Eagles for being on the right side of referee Greg Hartley's decisions in the 1978 grand final. From the savage detail with which 29-year-old events are recited, I'm figuring this is the sort of guy who doesn't talk to relatives who forget to send him a card on his sixth birthday and harasses supermarket shoppers who have 13 items in their basket at the 12 items-only aisle.

Any Cronulla fans who were alive in 1978, and have forgiven Manly and Greg Hartley are spineless wimps.

Richard Hinds should do some research. Hartley's imcompetence was in evidence in 2 finals as well the GF and replay. All hismis tackle counts and refusals to awards penalties favoured Manly.

I hate Manly and Greg Hartley. And Richards Hinds is a poor journalist.

I very much doubt the subject of the article in question is me, but I would be very proud if it were. Biggest travesty in the recent history of the game how Hartley thought he was God (when we all knew that he couldn't be, because Steve Rogers was....)

I still can't reconcile that the last time I went to a GF I was still at school .. most of my children are now older than I was then. Bl**dy Hartley....

I spoke to a son of a certain Cronulla GF player about this legend. He asked his father and according to the player, that story is true.

A bloke I know thought it must've been me. But it wasn't. Sure I feel that way, but so does every other Sharks fan who was at the SCG that day. We were dead set robbed. I still seeth with anger every time I think of it.
Oh yeah. And Michael Crocker is my current hero. :shock:

An unfortunate thing about all this is that Sharks fans under the age of about 40 won't have a clue what we are talking about. DVD's/videos of the match do not show the incident in question as they were taken from the western side of the scrum. Steve's Martin's illegal scrum feed was on the eastern side of the scrum on the scoreboard side.
Fair dinkum, my heart sang with joy when I saw that feed. Ripper, I thought, a kick at goal from right in front of the posts and only a couple of minutes to go. But it was not to be - Hartley let play continue despite Sludge's protests. All the NRL says about the match was that Sludge missed another shot at goal from a different incident. Obviously, that's the official line.
Believe me, this crime against the Sharks has well and truly been swept under the carpet.
NRL/ARL publications say nothing about this incident (naturally)
