Simon Woolford has done a marvelous job over the past week.

Here is a part of Germ's Jibber

On the Field is the Focus

14/07/04: In a difficult week for the Club, its’ nice to be able to sit down and reflect on the way things are going for us on the field, rather than off it.

Having lost three of our mates in Joel Monaghan, Luke Davico and Ruben Wiki to other Clubs for the 2005 season, you could probably be excused for shifting your focus away from the field.

This however, we are determined not to let happen. Our current season is alive and well, and these players will certainly be giving no less than 100% in their final games for the Raiders.

There are no hard feelings towards any of the players. Every player is entitled to make the best decision for their future and for the benefit of their family, and despite the fact that we will be sad to see them go, life will go on for the Raiders next season.

We have a number of outstanding young players rising through the grades, and some we have already seen doing an outstanding job in their first season in the top grade.

One such youngster is Nathan Smith, who is probably the only player who left Canberra Stadium with a lasting memory of Saturday night’s clash with the Cowboys, after scoring a pair of tries in his first grade debut.

‘Smitty’ received a real shock when he got his call-up last week, and repaid the coach with a great display on Saturday night.

Nathan is just one of a host of really bright talent that we have at the Club. Raiders fans have got plenty to look forward to in the coming years when you consider the likes of Alan Rothery, Todd Carney, Terry Campese and Kris Kahler, whom have all had a taste of first grade this season.

I'm glad you put this in RL18. What a tower of strength the captain has been. I would have started a thread if you had not of. He sometimes blows up on the pitch, however in this instance 'The Twitch' has turned a negative into a positive. He carries the responsibility and has stood up when it has counted. As I like to say, in the words of Millwall FC "No one likes Germ, He don't care"

After a hard-fought win over the Cowboys, who proved that they are a much better side this year, we now move on to one of the biggest challenges of our season.

This weekend we hit the road to Penrith for a real test against the defending premiers.

The on-field form of the Panthers has been well below par in recent weeks, and the mountain men will be desperate for a hit-back before they really fall away from the top contenders.

On paper the Panthers boast an awesome line-up. With Girdler and Gower back in the team, and a couple of ordinary performances in the last two weeks, we are probably hitting them at the worst possible time.

Having said that, this game presents us with a great to opportunity to build on some of the momentum we have picked up over the last month.

After three straight wins we have steadied our season, and are nicely poised to make a run to the finals.

The Panthers snatched the points from us in Canberra earlier this season, so it will be nice to return the favour and beat them in front of their home crowd this Saturday night.

This game is sure to be one of the highlights of the season, so whatever you do, don’t miss any of the action from 5.30pm this Saturday night.

Catch you next time,

Simon Woolford

- Woolford, you are an absolute champ.
- Schifcofske, you are also a champ. Nothing is better than seeing someone play for the Raiders when they just love the lime-green, like you do.
