Hayne - Absence can help?

Maybe I read this article the wrong way, but, Im starting to get tired of his ego.

I hope someone has taken him aside, and pointed out how much his antics last week have cost the team.

I dont know about anyone else, but imo, the comment of "realising im not there" has been the case of the whole season so far. Until last Friday, I dont think he has been "there". Scores 2 great tries & then loses it.

Maybe I am being too harsh?

Hayne says his absence can help Eels

Parramatta superstar Jarryd Hayne fears suspension could ruin his Test aspirations, but believes his Eels team-mates can turn his enforced holiday into something positive.
The Eels desperately need to get their NRL season on track on Sunday against the Gold Coast, but must do it without their most influential player.
Hayne was rubbed out for two matches after the club decided not to contest his headbutt of Canterbury forward Corey Payne.

The Eels have not won without Hayne for nearly three seasons, but in many respects, the No.1 sees his absence as a potential blessing in disguise.
While he concedes the spell could cost him an Australian jumper, Hayne says his Eels team-mates can at least benefit from the challenge.
Parramatta players have admitted they often rely too much on their main man and Hayne acknowledged the habit needs to be broken.
"It's (a big loss for the club) but I think all the boys really need to find some form so hopefully this will make them stand up with me not being there," Hayne said on Wednesday.
"I think everyone in the team can really step up now and really take it upon themselves to stamp their authority on the team.
"It's a different way to get the best out of the team, realising I'm not there, and just other players having to really stamp their mark on the game."
Hayne was selected in last year's mid-season Test victory over New Zealand, but missed out on the losing Four Nations campaign after being ruled out with a hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old's two week ban means he won't get another chance to impress selectors before the Kangaroos team is picked at the end of round eight ahead of the Test at Skilled Park on May 6.
He concedes reclaiming his wing spot could now prove difficult, with St George Illawarra stars Brett Morris and Darius Boyd leading the list of contenders.
"I haven't really been thinking about it but it probably will harm my chances," Hayne said.
"It's up to the selectors, I can't really do anything.
"I think there's other players that are in great form so I'm just worried about getting myself fit in these next two weeks and really training hard and keeping my focus on footy."
Luke Burt will replace Hayne at fullback this week and predicted reverting to the back will improve his own game.
Burt doesn't believe suspension should cost his team-mate Australian selection.
"I'd like to hope not, for Haynesy's sake. I think he was in the side last year so hopefully that counts for something," said the Eels veteran, who is excited by the challenge of filling the No.1 shirt.
"I get to roam around a lot more, I've got a bit more free reign of where I can go on the field."
Eels five-eighth Daniel Mortimer is one who believes Parramatta can improve their overall game without Hayne present.
"Absolutely, we probably depended on Jarryd too much and he's a great player there's no doubt, he's the best in our side," he said.
"But it's a really good chance for some of the other boys to step up and get some confidence in our team."

I am so upset that Hayne is missing out on rep contentions. It really is a travesty because every year he traditionally plays so well in the opening rounds & not only just before rep sides are picked... surely the selectors will see that :sarcasm:

I don't have an issue with him acknowledging what we all say around here every week, without Hayne we have nothing. Why is it so bad that he himself even realises this. He's given everyone plenty of oppurtunities to step up but he's the only one who can create some nervous moments for the opposition.

Ego much???

This guy thinks he is bigger than the team.
I'm sick of it.
I totally agree with you NorthShoreEel.
It's not a good image.

If you replace Hayne with Hindy in this article it suddenly seems a lot more nicer and pleasant.

Love all the tools here affected by placebo.

You won't see an article like that, because Hindy would never make comments like that.

he was probably put on the spot and you have to consider the context and questions put to him..... that interview is the least of our worries

True, Hindy would talk about how we are turning the corner and having a final tilt at the finals. Line in the sand, pizza night, truth session etc.

apart from not being very articulate when he talks i can't see anything wrong with what he said. simple fact is that when the chips are down the rest of the side seem to wait for him (in attack) to spark something.

But if he did, you'd be sucking his c**k.

WHAT? Are you normal? What sort of comment is that?

Your argument is dumb. The reason he wouldn't make comments like this is what makes us appreciate him. Comments like that are not part of Hindy's nature and never would be.

If you honestly can't see the difference in ego between Hayne and Hindy, then your input is not worth two cents.

The way I see it. Hayne's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

If he's in every play he's a one-man team. SK has made it clear that he doesn't want that, so he's trying to get the team not to rely on Hayne. So is it possible that SK has maybe said hang back a little here and there to encourage the other guys to step up? But if he hangs back here and there, he's said to be lazy. I honestly think he tries to get the team involved, but realistically he is the one who can change the momentum of the game in one run.

Parramatta players have admitted they often rely too much on their main man and Hayne acknowledged the habit needs to be broken.
"It's (a big loss for the club) but I think all the boys really need to find some form so hopefully this will make them stand up with me not being there," Hayne said on Wednesday.

He wouldn't have said "it's a big loss for the club". More likely they structured the question so they could quote that. Is it wrong to agree that him not playing is a loss? Be real here, they are professionals and the whole team knows that some players are more valuable than others, i.e. Hayne & Hindy, etc.

"I think everyone in the team can really step up now and really take it upon themselves to stamp their authority on the team.
"It's a different way to get the best out of the team, realising I'm not there, and just other players having to really stamp their mark on the game."

I see this as him trying to encourage the team to step up (it's not a secret that they're struggling to put points in the bank). They do need to step up, and if he were playing he would have said "we really need to step up in this game"

There's a difference between arrogance and confidence in one's abilities. And when journalists are involved with all their own agendas, it's very easy to be misquoted (or for quotes not to come out exactly as they were intended).

No I can see it, but that wasn't my point.

My point was that IF Hindy said something along those lines, you'd be praising his tenacity and honesty.

FTR people here are severely overreacting and over analysing a loose comment from Hayne. Ego problem, I'd say he might have some, but I won't use this article as a basis for it.
