PARRAMATTA Eels superstar Jarryd Hayne has just been voted the game’s best player by his peers in RLW’s exclusive Players’ Poll.

RLW polled 100 players anonymously last week – and as always the results, spread over the following pages, make fascinating reading.

Hayne’s rise to win the best player with 30 votes – nine clear of Cowboys superstar Thurston – is simply remarkable.

The enigmatic Eel did not get a single vote in 2011, 2012 or 2013 but was an overwhelming winner among his peers in 2014.

Hayne’s winning margin of nine votes is the most emphatic victory since Cowboys skipper Thurston streaked home in 2009.

Hayne and Thurston are without a doubt great players, but Parramatta have won just 45% of games in which Hayne has played, and the Cowboys have won 51% of games in which Thurston has played. The latter was the point I made when Penrith were preparing to offer the family jewels to get Thurston.

Rugby League is a team sport. It's OK to have superstars, but they don't guarantee a successful team.

They dont in a team of plodders, but give them something to work with & the cream rises. Hes pretty much been one of the blues best for a while now.

What did it taste like?

Homo erotic fantasies appearing early in your LU tenure.
Best get in touch with him yourself if you're keen for such info. There are also a number of man crush threads in the Cave that will no doubt appeal to you.

How Thurston got anything like 21% is beyond me. This year has been plodderesque for him.

Hayne's performances during the regular season and in SOO have been nothing short of outstanding. A well deserved accolade.

I don't think it's even close. When he's on song i'm not sure i've seen a player i would take over him.

No shit. Did anyone vote Parramatta or the Cowboys as the best team?

Not just that but Thurston is once again gonna go within 1 or 2 votes of winning the Dally M, I can see it now. If Hayne misses out to him it'll be ridiculous.

Well deserved, the man can change the whole momentum of a game in a heartbeat. Good effort.

Must have voted very early on in the year in 2009 for Hayne not to have "won" this poll that year as well.
