Jarryd Hayne’s rocky start on the Gold Coast continues.

GOLD Coast superstar Jarryd Hayne has denied he was fined by the Titans for having a bad attitude, saying it was for heading to Sydney for treatment without the permission of coach Neil Henry.

In a series of cryptic tweets late on Sunday night, the former Parramatta fullback and NFL star confirmed the fine but insisted he was given the all clear to fly south by one of the team’s co-captains Ryan James and Kevin Proctor.

However, in reference to a quote from an unnamed source in a report about his fine, Hayne tweeted: “Loose lips sinks ships!”

“Was meant to be cap sess (captain’s session). Captain said was ok 4me 2get treatment in syd! Coach found out and fined me. Media will milk it!!!!”

Hayne, who scored a try in the Titans’ comprehensive defeat by Sydney Roosters in their NRL season opener, has been dogged by controversy since his shock signing after returning from a stint in the NFL.

Last September he was filmed partying with a Gold Coast biker gang and handing over a wad of cash to one of the members.

He recently upset club powerbrokers by publicly stating he wanted to play rugby in France when his two-year contract expires.

Gold Coast might be a work in progress but coach Neil Henry says that doesn’t excuse some of their defensive failings in Saturday’s 32-18 NRL defeat to the Roosters.

The Titans were carved up far too easily in their season opener at Cbus Super Stadium, falling behind 28-0 at the break after the Roosters piled on five unanswered tries.

It was a poor performance from the hosts although they nearly made up for it with an encouraging fightback in the second half.

Henry knows it can’t be repeated if the Titans are to become a serious finals contender this year.

“You can’t get away from the fact of how poor we were in the first half,” he said.

“There’s a valid reason for some of our play but we also need to be better with what we’re doing defensively, regardless.

“There ended up being a run of plays where we didn’t have the ball for a while and I thought when the heat was on us, we didn’t get our decisions right on the edges. You can’t play games like that.”

But Henry said he was a “realist” who could recognise the mitigating circumstances surrounding his team after an injury-interrupted pre-season. For one, it was the first NRL match new halves Kane Elgey and Ash Taylor have played together.

Many other players were physically underdone — including Hayne, who Henry said was at about 80 per cent fitness because of a knee problem.

“The team hasn’t had an opportunity to trial together,” he said.

“We needed (Hayne) to get a run in — there was no structural damage to his knee, it was about time on legs for him. He’ll be better for that as well.

Why would Hayne need to travel to Sydney for treatment?? What was being treated?
Surely someone on the Gold Coast / Brisbane could have treated him for what ever he had!

well it could be that his regular doc/physio or what ever he was seeing is in Sidanee

who knows but it seems the media have taken a few liberties on his situation, mainly Kent and Hayne called him out on it

I honestly can't see him seeing out the year on the GC. Players already seem to dislike him or his attitude.

Probably, but what an hour to get to the airport, hr on the plane hr getting to the physio then back to the Gold Coast. That's probably 6 or so hours of sitting down which wouldn't be good for an injury especially a leg or back injury.

And isn't a captains run the day before a game ? Surely the coach wouldn't want his star player flying around the day before a game.

If I was Neil Henry, I'd be ramming his phone up his arse and telling him to stop tweeting or the iPad will go up there as well.

Hey that's a new angle for Foxtel's Hayne cam (which was missing last weekend)

Colon Cam - "Make sure Gold Coast's only player worth mentioning is healthy in all areas of his game"

I saw the tweet. Didn't need to see it again.

You and Hayne might think he has landed a zinger on K*nt. I'm pointing out that to most of us it looks like he is losing the plot and is focused more on what the media say rather doing his best for the Tits. The more he keeps tweeting in an attempt to salvage his image, the more he is actually damaging it.

From the outside looking in, he's coming across as a bit of a basket case at the moment... From day 1 when he was paraded in front of the media after signing with the Titans it seems to have been an awkward union... He talked more about Parra that day than he did about why he signed with the Gold Coast.... Since then he has lost all but 1 game with the Titans, he's been fined by the leadership group for lax training standards and even before a ball was kicked in season 2017 he was already talking about maybe not taking up his option to stay at the Gold Coast next year... At no point has he sounded like a bloke who wants to play for that team....
It will not end well. Agree 100%.

I don't consider the tweet him "calling Kent out". Its just a girly whingefest that is the equivalent of Kent being slapped with a wet lettuce.

I stand by my original comment.
