If a club wants to let a player go who is under contract Id say they would have to pay him thou. Or make up his difference at another club.

or negotiate a deal

Hayne left us when he was under contract, He said he wanted to go play NFL, BA agreed to let him go. In this case the player wanted out so he went.

Clubs also release players from their contract due to salary cap restrictions, yet the players are under contract so effectively the players have no protection. Just because some one is under contract doesn't mean they will see it out. In this case, clubs let players go, it works both ways

For what ever reason, it happens.

Yes Hayne left us, but we agree to it. If we said no he was stuck with us. Just like we have refused to release Semi.

If it was so easy to leave, why doesn't Semi just leave now and go to French rugby ?

No club has been able to release a player on unless the player agrees (yes they can put pressure of them). Or they pay the contract out in full.

Can you give an example of a player being released without the contract being paid out ?

It just doesn't happen as a contract is legally binding!!

I think we all agree the Bulldogs are one of the better managed clubs in the NRL with a lot of third party connections. Now if it was so easy to just release a player, you would think they would be one club to be able to do it. Yet they were stuck paying Lloyd perrett a shit load to pay NSW cup as they couldn't just release him:

So really, players can't just be released. There is plenty of examples of clubs being stuck with players.

Also another example, if it is so easy to release players why is it always reported that club A is paying part of player X's contract to play with club B (examples Barba / Jennings ).

Hayne will leave at the end of the year i reckon and go overseas again.
The media and his attitude is driving fans against him.
I'm sure there is a section of player at the Titans who don't like Hayne and are leaking stuff to the media to make him look bad and ethier smarten his act up and play some great footy or leave the club altogether.
I think the NRL picked the wrong player to turn the Titans around for sale. Hayne's heart was never in it up there, he only wanted to play at Parra with his mates, we had cap issues and the NRL and his manager pushed him towards the big money.
He would come back to Parra but I'm not sure BA wants him.

The NRL should have put more pressure on DCE to not backflip he would be a better fit for the Titans to build a club around, he's a Qlder for a start.

I'm not disputing pay outs because neither you nor I know any terms under which any player has been released so nothing there can be substantiated. My claim being in the context of Hayne's staying at the Tits was my term of reference.

You make a good point about Semi but does anyone know, other than Semi if he really wants to go now ? Last I read he said as soon as his time is up he wants to return to the Eels. Its could be that family and financial pressure made his decision for him but I am just speculating there.

Nathan Peats thought he had a deal to stay at Parra too and he was forced out, that much we do know, so his playing contract in terms of contract length didn't really mean much.

Easy. Hayne never ever again.
I'd take him if he were willing to play wing/centre for $400k and train properly and put in for whole season.
In fact I reckon he'd be an ideal replacement for Semi. I just don't think his ego would allow him to go back to being "just a winger"

If he trained properly and played to his potential I wouldn't want him on the wing.

Only because he agreed.

If he didn't we were stuck with him.

It's like a game of chess ........

The other things that we do know:

1. If Nathan Peats dug his heels in then Parra would not have been able to move him on.

2. Both parties agreed to terminate the contract.

3. The contract would have detailed the appropriate arrangements that would have needed to be fulfilled in the event that both parties agree to terminate the contract, thereby providing considerable value beyond the paper it was written on.

Wasn't it also the case that Peats was off contract at end 2016 and that BA is on record saying that they were not going to offer him a deal for 2017+ ?

I'm not sure he was "on record" as saying Peats wouldn't be re-signed beyond 2016.... I think there were some whispers around from insiders that this could be the case. Coupled with the fact that Kritchard and King I think were signed at that stage for 2017, folks were putting 2 and 2 together to come up with bupkis...

From what I recall BA didn't want to re-sign Peats on the $500K that he was on but he did want to re-sign him on a lower amount.

Smith was always planning for the future. He went thru eras at parra wherre he built a team then had to have a bad season and rebuild.
Hagan reaped the benefits in his first season. But started the rot.
2009 was worse thing that could happen. For half the season we stunk. After it we extended guys who where not first graders. Held onto moimoi to long, MK,smith, mortimer etc.....

SK walked into a disaster of a squad and a cap mess. And made it worse by trying to build a respectable team with has beens.
Hate or love him ricky made quick tough decision and recruited Norman.

So you don't agree with the Brian Smith comments. What about the rest of what I said?
