The media have overtaken car salesman and real estate agents as the most untrustworthy merkins in society.

Because what Jarryd Hayne does in his life affects your life in absolutely zero ways, so what's the point in constantly bagging a bloke you don't even know?

Fair enough to bag a player for how he plays, but unless they are a genuine, proven merkin of a person like, say, Russell Packer, what possible benefit do you get from bagging them personally based on gossip and innuendo? It sounds like they have... there's very little incentive to "win" the way modern salary and contracts are drawn up. The average player just needs to make sure they can play for a contract offer/extension when the time comes around.

Hayne would know all about losing though... his win percentage is pretty low, despite (or even because of?) his renowned slackness at training.
