Know one forced the Titans to offer a bloke $2.4 million over two years who didn't want to play there.
That's irrelevant to my point.

Hayne chose to accept big money to go somewhere he didn't want to be and has since chosen to do f**k all for the team other than make everything about himself. That's f**ken shit form from Hayne and is a large reason why he is derided by so many fans.

No amount of Chipmunk icing can turn that turd into a scoop of ice cream.

If you sign a bloke who you knowingly admit would rather be playing elsewhere, and this was made abundantly clear to the world at a press conference less than 12 hours after he signed, then I don't think they could expect any more than what they got. The fact that the Titans were willing to pay him $2,4 million is their stupidity, not The Plane's fault.

Can’t believe what Im reading. Many players have unwilling been forced out of their clubs to play elsewhere. Hayne fcked off from parra, he wasn’t even an eel.

What if he comes ‘home’ and decides he doesn’t want to have a crack at the eels because he was getting paid more money at the titans.

That’s the issue with Hayne, his fcking attitude.

If he’s been tanking it, he’s a bigger merkin then given credit for.

Hard to argue with any of that...

Gary what about Foran, Woods, Teddy, Moses. He was offered silly dollars and took them.

The biggest worry with Hayne was tackle breaks. In 2014 he had 130 odd. 2017 he had 30.
That ranks last in NRL for his position.
Ponga had more with only 7 games.

On the bird theme pidgeons always return home. So maybe if Hayne does come he can be known as the pidgeon.......

Talking about pidgeons. I knew a guy, maltese bloke who sold racing pidgeons at the market.
People would set them off and they where trained too fly back to his place. Few weeks later he would sell them again.
Eventually he was found out.

A great pidgeon story

As you all know, I am not a fan of Puddin. But I think that he was railroaded the day he was flown up to the Gold Coast.

IIRC the story goes that he was flown up to see the setup. Nek minute there is a gabillion dollar offer on the table, a lawyer at hand to waive his cooling off period and his manager on the phone saying that the Eels have not made an offer. He was told that he had no time to ponder as it would only remain on the table for an hour or so.

So with respect to that scenario, I don't think it's all that fair to call him a mercenary.

Jeez people act like he's the first player to take big money.

He was offered 200-400k or something more to perform the same role somewhere he didn't want to really do it. I think every single one of us would take that in less than a heartbeat. It doesn't make him a mercenary. It also doesn't excuse not performing in the role he chose to take

I've got no issue with him or anyone else taking the money if it's on offer, but the Titans should've at least done better due diligence before coming up with such ridiculous money.

If he comes to Parra it seems like we're not going to be dumb enough to pay him $1.2 million and throw him a contract in his favour.

Under our terms he's worth a shot for the right money.

I think you have to ignore every single stat he had in 2017. It was fairly clear from the pre-season, when apparently approaches were made by his people to both Parra and the Roosters, that he really only wanted a 5-9 game cameo at the back end of 2016 on the Gold Coast.

I don't have an issue with him taking the money either. Most people would do the same thing.

The issue I have is that his actions have demonstrated a failure to perform at all, which based on what he was being paid is unacceptable. His attitude has been shithouse ever since he walked into the joint. That's what makes him a mercenary.

Even if we pay him sensible money, he would still need to dramatically improve on what he he has served up at the titans.

The Titans flew a bloke up who had no intentions of signing with them and 12 hours later he signed on the dotted line. The Titans got everything they deserved when offering a bloke who never wanted to be there, so much money that he couldn't refuse.
Beardo also wanted him there as he thought it would help with selling the Tits

His attitude was fine the last few games of 2016 at the Titans, which is really the only time he ever wanted to be there. Since then he's apparently tried on multiple occasions to get out of the joint.

I think he hasn't performed because he's having a sook because he is somewhere he doesn't want to be and the place he wants to be hasn't really shown any interest in him. He's shown a considerably better attitude at Fiji than he has all year at the Titans. He was pretty good and better than most Qld players for 1/2 the Origin series, but his entire team fell apart after that.

We've played the long game and made him wait before considering taking him back. We've made him grovel, we've made him desperate, we've made him hungry for our affection. We now appear to have decided we will only welcome him back on our terms... I don't see too much risk to be honest.

The risk for us is a lot lower than it was for the Titans.

However, given the fairly unflattering description that you just provided of his actions and motives this year, I think it is reasonable to question whether it is someone we want at all.

Sounds like a bet each way.

Hardly. He's certainly not a "mercenary". But you also can't sit there like some here and say "well you can't blame him, he was enticed with big money and trickery!"

End of the day he chose to take the role he took and he should perform regardless of how he feels about that decision. Still doesn't make him a mercenary though

If his primary motive for making the decision was money and then he performs as poorly as he has I think the term "mercenary" is appropriate.

He doesn't even appear remotely interested in the Titans. Perhaps not worthy of a Kayne West song but definitely mercenary behaviour to some degree.
