There’s a lot of strange and difficult people in gaol, there was a post earlier that he could flog 99% of them, man to man, but the prisons are mostly run by gangs.

So if someone wants him sorted for some reason then he might be set upon by several people at once and by surprise.

He needs to learn the ways of gaol and try to keep cool with the other inmates etc.

He could send some feelers ( pun intended) out to try to get some protection I suppose.

The jury has made a decision, but there is an appeal process and I’d have to reserve my judgment on him until that process is exhausted.

I’m not sure why he didn’t elect a judge alone trial given the standard.
