Footy bosses have yet to make a decision over disgraced star Jarryd Hayne, with chiefs deliberating over whether he will be struck off as a Dally M winner.

Former Parramatta star Hayne was convicted of sexual assault in May following a lengthy retrial and is now sharing a cell with former Manly player Manase Fainu at the Geoffrey Pearce Correction Centre in Sydney.

His lawyer, Margaret Cunneen SC, confirmed that he will lodge an appeal against the conviction, and News Corp reports that the NRL is closely monitoring the legal process before making a decision.

Hayne is a two-time Dally M medallist, winning rugby league's top prize in 2009 and 2014.

Hayne has twice won the Eels' best and fairest award - the Ken Thornton medal - and Parra are understood to be also awaiting the legal process.

Well the AFL stripped Cable of his playing honours without a second thought. Hayne seems in s similar boat - except for his claims that he intends to still appeal...

There's been talk of stripping Ben Roberts Smith and his SAS colleagues of medals, if war crimes are prosecuted and proven. I'm pretty sure Milli Vanilli lost awards. And Rolf Harris was stripped of his CBE and his OAM after his court cases were exhausted.

It's not revisionist history, it's acknowledging the impact of future on the past legacies.

I understand military awards being rescinded if there was a crime committed whilst in military service, but to take sporting awards away for something that didnt happen on the sporting field doesn't seem right.
The DallyM's were won by Hayne the footballer, not Hayne the convicted sex offender.

No, it's saying someone's subsequent (criminal) behaviour means the privilege of being honoured is taken away by the organisation that originally bestowed the honour. It's totally up to that organisation to choose, for reasons that matter to them e.g. damaging the brand.

Jarryd Hayne has found himself at the centre of a life-threatening prison emergency during a game of touch footy at the Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre.

Jarryd Hayne has found himself at the centre of a life-threatening prison emergency during a game of touch footy with other inmates at the Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre near Windsor, northwest of Sydney.

The convicted rapist and former NRL superstar was playing footy with around 20 prisoners when one inmate suddenly collapsed in the middle of the game due to a heart attack.

Vision obtained exclusively by The Sunday Telegraph shows Hayne and other prisoners rushing to the prisoner to provide aid after his collapse on the field.

The paper reports Hayne, 35, held up a towel to protect the man from the sun while prison officers worked to revive him.

I think it’s hard for a club to celebrate a former player whilst appearing to not to condone his post career actions.

In one of the latest episodes of Utopia, they had a $400m freeway that was being held up because of a statue of a town favourite who they found was a mongrel to indigenous folk. The work-around was that they mounted a plaque that pointed out that whilst he was a pioneer, he was also a top shelf merkin based on today’s standards.

For the time being, I don’t even think that a disclaimer is adequate in the Eels Hall of Fame as some will still want his contribution erased for good.

I hope that we can be adults about it because to cancel him Rolf Harris style doesn’t sit well with me.
