I think jonus pearson has been a huge positive so far because he gets a lot of metres and gets a quick play the ball to the likes of McInnes and dufty which creates metres gained and attacking opportunities. He looks good under the high ball and alright in defence and has speed to burn.

Jonus Pearson had 5 runs for 45 running metres in 80 minutes of football against Canberra.
Doesn't exactly support your assertions here, does it flash?
Would be in reserve grade at any other club other than ours.

  1. Pearson's taking of the high ball is very good.
  2. Pearson's defence still needs work however this is also the case with any player coming through these days; I say this is more the fault of our reserve grade coaching staff who do not prepare players well enough to step up.
  3. Pearson would be playing under Mary's instructions. Unless we know what instructions Mary gave Pearson, we really can't comment. What I can say is that most of our attack moving out of our 20 initiated from our right or centre which in itself would restrict Pearson's participation.

Yes he didn't have a good game against the raiders but I think you could say that about just about everybody in our 17. He is a young player emerging and I think he has the x factor we need as a winger but I appreciate your opinion.

Come On Possum let's be serious.
45 running metres in 80 minutes?
Any winger in FG today would accumulate much more than that and you know it.
Pearson was invisible yesterday.
How many times did he come in and take a hit up to support the forwards?
Both our wingers are not up to FG standard and has to do with aptitude not coach's instructions.
We brought them from outside and it's almost like we are obliged to play them in FG because of that.

Ravalawa - 2 errors and 1 penalty
Pearson - 1 error and no penalties
Dufty - 2 errors and no penalties ,1 try

In short no-one from our back three were great.

At the end of 2018 we lost two experienced wingers and Millward in his wisdom replaced them with two inexperienced reserve graders at best however, he did say that they have enormous potential and what he was looking for was big strong wingers who attack the high ball, who can take a pass and defend well. These two players do need to progress but this is all we have and from my point of view they are a work in progress. Of course it would have been better if Millward recruited like for like or preferably BETTER wingers but he did not.

When it comes to Pearson's metres, I like to see his average for the season before bagging him. The majority of players performed poorly last night. Aitken, Lafai and Dufty all performed below standard. In fact our back 5 have been terrible for the past two years at least.

I agree but I am not comparing the back three.
I am surprised at your glowing assessment of Pearson.

Our back three are nearly as bad as our centres. Pearson is a reserve grader, he has zero punch. I'd have pereira over him at this point, bring in saab and move Rava to the centres w Lomax. Lafai and Aitken need to be punted to the moon

When Lomax returns, I wouldn't mind seeing a back five of:
1. Lomax
2. Pearson
3. Ravalawa
4. Pereira or Ford
5. Saab

Drop Dufty, Aitken and Lafai to reserve grade, they have no place in our 2020 first grade side.

I think it goes something like "go out there and play some rugby league, try to score more points than the other team but even if we lose we all still get paid"

Do you think that when Widdop goes he will be replaced by a fullback from another club? Personally I would move lomax to fullback and try and buy a gun center from another club.

Well the only quote of Mary's instructions is the instructions given to Lomax when he was selected to play on the right wing early this season. It went something like this:

Don't do anything fancy. Just take the ball safely, run straight and hard and get to a quick play the ball.

He’s not our FB Dufty is so unless Dufty is going somewhere you won’t need a FB
Unless Aitken & Lafai are going somewhere you won’t need a centre
In case you missed it the replacement for Widdop is Norman as both are 5/8’s

If Dufty's our long term fullback then we are in BIG trouble

I'm not bagging Pearson I just can't see the potential.
I don't see him doing his share of work carting the ball up from our defensive third.
Seriously, I would have preferred to promote Saab.
