Help bring Queen to Australia

Hi all. I am calling upon Queen fans, people who like the odd Queen song, and the general music-listening public to sign an online petition to try and get the current 'world' tour of 'Queen + Paul Rodgers' here to Australia.

I am a HUGE Queen fan, and would VERY much appreciate everyone's help. I know I'm not the only one on these forums.

If you would like an indication of what they sound like with Paul Rodgers doing lead vocal, there is the live album that was released about a month or so ago called 'Return Of The Champions'. It sounds incredible. The dvd will be out shortly too.

After starting their tour in South Africa earlier this year, they have extensively toured Europe, Japan, and are just starting an American leg - with every show a sell-out so far.

I reckon you can't have a world tour and not include Australia and New Zealand ...

Thunderstruck said:
Hey, didn't John Deacon retire, who replaced him?

Yes, he did. But he was always somewhat of a social recluse anyway, and perhaps he didn't want to be associated with this re-incarnation.

It's Paul Rodgers, Brain May, Roger Taylor, and a number of other musicians...

The line-up of Queen+Paul Rodgers is:

Brian May & Roger Taylor (Queen) on lead guitar and drums respectively, Danny Miranda on bass (from the 'We Will Rock You' Las Vegas band), Spike Edney (toured with Queen many times as an extra musician on stage for some songs), and Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company) on lead vocals. There is a 2nd guitarist, but I can't think of who it is at the moment.

I do agree it won't be the same without Freddie Mercury and John Deacon, but for one reason or another, they're not touring. If Brian & Roger called themselves anything but Queen, no-one except their loyal fan-base would know who they were.

I have been dying to see Queen in some form or another live ever since I became a Queen fan in 1994. I missed out on seeing Brian May when he toured in 1998 because I was 6months too young to be allowed into the club he was playing. I am still devastated to this day.

Like I said in the first post, have a listen to the Queen+Paul Rodgers live album 'Return Of The Champions' recorded at Sheffield earlier this year. They sound incredible. The dvd comes out in about a month, so I can't wait for that.

For those who aren't that fussed on Queen, then sign the petition anyway just for the principle of it. Big acts tour the word all the time, but frequently they skip Australia, or just do a Sydney-Melbourne 'tour'. Sign the petition just to show 'em AUSTRALIA EXISTS and is important.

If Queen take notice and come to Australia, to those who sign the petition, I will be forever in your debt!

I just remembered who the 2nd guitarist is: Jamie Moses. I'm not too sure who he is, but his name has been mentioned in Queen circles for a few years now. He's been a mate of theirs for a while, but I think he may have been involved with a very good and popular Queen tribute show in the UK - but not the 'It's A Kinda Magic' one that comes around Australia every 18months or so.

I saw Queen in the mid 80's on their Works Tour.
I wasn't real fussed about going but my girlfriend(at the time) wanted to go.
They were absolutely sensational.
I dont care who they have singing now but they'll never replace Freddy.
One for the memories.

Poor Paul Rogers. The lead singer of bad Company, yeah? Took over from the great Paul Kossof in Free?

So, it has come to this.

Queen, even with the dead guy, they were parody who never topped their appearance at Sunbury 74....

BRIAN May laughs when reminded of Queen's 1974 debut show in Australia - the band's first outside England which caused a near riot at the Sunbury Rock Festival, outside Melbourne. Queen, particularly Freddie, were booed and abused by a yobbo crowd apparently outraged that "a bunch of English poofs" should top the bill over Australian acts including Billy Thorpe.

Okay, I realise it's been a while since anyone's posted in this thread, but here is an unashamed -BUMP-!

The word is most certainly out there about this possible Queen + Paul Rodgers tour to Australia, and it continues to gain support and strength. Please, anyone who hasn't already signed this online petition, PLEASE DO! For those who have already signed, thank you so very much.

The cd of their live show in Sheffield in May 2005 is awesome, and the dvd that was released shortly after the cd is absolutely incredible. I've heard that wasn't even one of the better shows they've done on this tour!

The more people that sign the petition, the more likely it is they'll come. Late 2006 is looking the likely time they'd come. Please sign the petition, and let everyone you know who likes Queen or Paul Rodgers about it (and tell 'em where to go to sign it).

Thankyou all (hopefully!) in advance.

Surely promoters will help bring Queen+Paul Rodgers to Australia. They're supposedely concerned that the tour in Australia & NZ will not sell. I looked in the entertainment section of the newspaper on Saturday (for the first time in quite a long time), considering the quality of the performers touring Australia in the near future and in recent past, Queen+Paul Rodgers must be a shoe-in.

In no way am I bagging these artists/bands/groups (as I happen to like the odd song here and there from them), but given that Queen alone (albeit with Freddie Mercury and John Deacon) are the highest-selling band in UK history (they overtook the Beatles about a month or so ago, and only have Elvis and Cliff Richard ahead of 'em), and they have spent more time than anyone else in the UK charts (once again, a recent achievement ... 6-12 months ago), surely Queen+Paul Rodgers will sell better than these following artists/bands/groups:

* Simple Minds
* Boney M
* (an almost unrecognisable) The Doors
* Stevie Nicks & John Farnham
* (also an almost unrecognisable) The Beach Boys
There are several more that I had in mind when I started typing this post, but I have forgotten who they were.
I'm not going to mention the 'stars' of Australian Idol (the winners and runner-ups), as although they are (in my opinion) dud acts, they are aimed at the teeny-bopper demographic.

Edit: I just remembered a couple more of these acts touring Australia ... and you can be assured that I don't like any of their songs (as I don't actually know any of them!).
* Donny Osmond
* David Hasselhoff
