So, a bit of a conspiracy theory:
Bruno Cullen is gone and now the Broncos want Bennett back. Bennett tells them that he'll come back in 2012, but they can only sack Henjack while he is in the UK.
So, Bennett leaves on Saturday, gets to the UK on Sunday. On Monday, Henjack is sacked. Next week when Bennett is back in the country, will he announce that he is going home next year and will be coaching the Broncos again? Not long after, Boyd announces that he also wants to go home to Brisbane again (no surprises there)...
This is out of left field and seems to have nothing to do with Bennett. Sure they may see him as a future option but he wasn't the cause of the dismissal. To get rid of Henjak so close to the start of the season is crazy.
He obviously did something that was beyond repair and they had no other choice but to get rid of him. All this review stuff White was on about is just a story for them to tell. It gave nothing other than they have a review process. Well guess what so do most of us.
The thing with reviews is that they have a date they need to be done by. Say Henjak's would logically be between the end of season 2010 and pre-season for 2011. Now for him to still be around means the Broncos were satisfied with his performance considering all factors. An unsatisfactory one wouldn't be actioned with so little warning after 4 months and just before season kick-off.
If he was unfairly dismissed I would have thought he would have been seen whinging on some channel.
What amused me is when they said that at a future date they would love him to take on some role at the Broncos. Obviously they feel sorry for him because he made a meal of things. He ain't going back. Just trying to save whats left of his career and reputation.
Ease up on the Bennett stuff. If I had to bet, he will take a one year option with us and play the field for 2013.
My personal opinion....
1. Most likely the expansion team will be in QLD as AFL has upped the ante in the south with 2 teams both in direct competition with the league franchises.
2. If Bennett signs for one year then that's it for the Dragons and Bennett
3. He will go back to Qld.
4. If he does take an expansion team then Boyd will be the franchise player and set the kid up for life.
The upside (if you can call it that) is there is no more speculation and we can get on with finding replacements.
