Defending premiers and premiers copping a huge defeat.

Over the years there’s been some interesting stats on teams who won the premiership the previous year conceding heavy defeats, and also teams who conceded heavy defeats but go on to win the premiership.

Defending premiers:

Bulldogs 2005- 48-12 Vs Cowboys

Panthers 2004- 66-14 Vs Melbourne (record)

Newcastle 2002- 64-14 Vs Cronulla

Brisbane 2001- 44-0 vs Newcastle

Melbourne 2000- 50-4 Vs Dragons

Brisbane 1999- 48-6 Vs Melbourne

Manly 1997- 41-8 Vs Norths

Premiers:

Bulldogs 2004- 35-0 Vs Roosters

Penrith 2003- 42-16 Vs Melbourne

Roosters 2002- 48-10 Vs Melbourne

Newcastle 2001- 40-0 Vs Parramatta

Brisbane 2000- 28-0 Vs Roosters

Bulldogs 1995- 42-0 Vs Newcastle (record)

Brisbane 1993- 40-20 Vs Norths

No side in history has conceded 50 points and gone on to win a premiership, the highest score conceded was 49 by Newcastle when lost 49-30 to Cronulla.

So far Brisbane (50-4 vs Melbourne), North Qld (50-12 Vs Parramatta) and Parramatta (54-14 Vs Brisbane) are the only sides in the top 8 so far who have conceded 50 points. Will everyone write them off now?

I think your little stat will be broken this year.

The premiership will be going to one of the Queensland teams this year I would suspect.

So...

out of the 8 now...

Manly
Sharks
Storm
Roosters
Raiders

Will win the final, Wow... I'll go with Sharks or Manly.

I agree... Broncos, Cowboys and Eels are no hope whatsoever...
The Broncos only get into the top 8 to make up the numbers anyway ;)

Sharks or Manly for me, probably Sharks by a scale.

I mentioned this after North Qld conceded 50 against Parramatta and people here gunned me down. Thanks for the back up.

And why are parramatta not on that list , oh yeah , thats right , they havent won since 86 , i would rather win a comp and be in the position the dogs are in now than have a 19 year drought.
