I have.
Aesthetically brilliant, sumptuously photographed, with stunning ballet-like choreography. However, the plot is wafer-thin, and slow motion is over-utilised imo. My rating: 3.5 stars. Definitely worth watching.

No arguments there!

I'm not sure you would want to have more plot than what there actually is. Sure, it's simple, but the strength of the film is what they draw out of it in terms of the hearts and minds of the characters, and their philosophies.

Maybe, perhaps the lake scene could have used a bit more editing.

I'd give it 4.5 stars - best movie I've seen for a while.

The problem for mine is the ending, it drags on so much and makes the movie (which only runs for 90 odd minutes) feel like it goes for about two and a half hours. They could have made it more succinct and less ponderous.

There's also been some criticism that the message the movie delivers being propaganda for Chinese nationalism.

.... I know it's visually stunning, uses great metaphors & symbolism, but during the majorty of the film doesn't engage the audience & your mind starts to drift

Like the movie....but the end is stupid considering the Chinese are STILL afraid to open the emperors tomb after all these thousands of years. They're scared his ghost will be in there and that he'll come out and terrorise them again. Evil man he was.

It is one of the most cinematographically stunning films I've ever seen. The director's use of colour in alternate storylines is something subtle that really gives the movie tremendous visual depth. Some of the fight scenes go beyond being action and become more like art. It's a mind blowing visual treat.

That said, the plot is something that would be far more accessible to the movie's intended audience. I had friends say it was 'stupid', but people need to bare in mind that this movie reflects a Chinese mythology. Flying ninjas seem cheesy to us because our Western culture mock and satirises the Asian mythology so often, but to a Chinese audience, it would be every bit as compelling as The Passion of the Christ was to Christian audiences.

Whilst I did find the storyline a little tedious at points, it was overall very well done. As I said, you see it for the tremendous visual aspects, but the storyline in no way detracts from the viewer's experience.

A solid 4.5 stars

loved it, 4.5/5 for mine. You're right, visually it is stunning. I loved the story. I don't think many westerners would appreciate it though as many would be using western cinema as a comparrison. Some understanding of the Chinese culture and the importance of themes such as maintaining face have to be taken into consideration.
