Former Queensland Origin and Bulldogs powerhouse forward Jason Hetherington admits he is interested in the vacant Central Comets head coaching job for next season.
Hetherington, who is preparing for his second outing as the Central Queensland Country team coach in Rockhampton this weekend, said he would not mind talking to the Comets about the position, but he had to weigh up all the options.
Current Comets coach Neale Crow has announced he will stand down after this season after three years in the top job.
Hetheringtons coaching experience is limited, but since retiring from his illustrious playing career in 2001 it is an area of the game that becomes more enticing to the Gladstone-based coach every day.
The 35-year-old said he still had not given the job a lot of thought but he was interested.
A new Comets coach would arrive off the back of a tough season, but Hetherington said it was important this year not to blame anyone.
"Its been real tough, but the players have to keep sticking tight together, Hetherington said.
Hetherington knows coaching is no easy job: "Playing is different because you can do something about the result yourself when youre coaching you cant get out there and make the tackles for them.
The Comets host Wynnum on Saturday night at 7. Former Comets enforcer Peter Penaia has been named on the bench for Wynnum.
