I had the pleasure of speaking to HG and Roy this evening and I asked them both about the Greg Bird incident. I was shocked by the scathing attack that came from their mouths!!! It was unbeleivable. They both agreed that the Super League war has turned players into and I quote "Soft overpaid ballerinas".
They said back in their day there was a "softening up period" which involved kneeing, punching, eye gouging and elbowing and this all in the first ten minutes of a match.
HG said that he was disappointed that Cronulla waited until the 65th minute to implement the game plan.
I asked them who were their favourite Cronulla players and they both instantly said they loved the Pidgeon. Stupidly, I asked who that was and they both said Danny Nutley. I hesitated, but had to ask the question why Pidgeon?? Roy said....Weeeeell, in his typical voice. The Pidgeon averages 8 runs a Test and Nutley averages 8 penalties a game and they are both Shire lads!!!!
I asked them about the Stevens trip and they both agreed that its not Stevens' go to trip and that he should stick with the Wedgie that he is famous for. They actually refer to Stevens as the Choc Wedge!!
I didn't want to take up too much of their time, so I finally asked if they though Cronulla could make the 8 this year. HG said no, but if we keep playing this style of football we should really bring the old crowds in and Roy said he thinks we can if 7 of the teams are over the salary cap.
