The real question - what is his best position?
I have my opinion.
If he wishes to be a rep player in the future, playing one position will help, otherwise you become a 'bench player'.

From my observation rep honours are not out of his reach.

That's a point I've been meaning to bring up for quite some time Mr Angry. He's not a rep hooker, clearly not a 5/8th so the obvious answer is lock. Him playing hooker for the first 15-20 minutes however benefits the team with Sullivan coming on shifting him to Lock. Lock is a position where he could make SOO.

Bloody 2 unit mathematics hated it! Cos Sin, and Tan, who gives a stuff as long as Hilder can kicks goals.

I wonder what the standard deviation of the mean is for Noddy's kicking.

Hilder is a player of similar positional ability as Flannery but of better ability, so while he plays all over the place for us,aka Flannery, that could make him a better proposition for rep football as a bench player.

His best position?

Lock or 2nd Row for mine.

In fact I like 2nd row most for him, always have done.

Great tackler, strong runner and plenty of size and bulk. Lots of upper body strength, takes a few to tackle him. And he'll only get better.

At lock, he'd be expected to get involved in the ball plays a little more, which he could handle, but then he's not running onto the 'gap balls' as often.

I see him as a player in the Chris McKenna mould, once he fills out a little more. Let's not forget, he's still a kid, and will bulk up well in the next 18 months.

I think Hilder has bulked up significantly this year and this will only be a good thing for his game.
I see him being used as a wide running second rower in the future as well as being an intergeral part of our defence on the edge of whatever side of the ruck he defends on.
He would have made a great hooker up until the mid to late 90's when the role of a hooker changed though the transition of halfbacks to hookers.

Hilder is going great, and a big pat on the back must be for the coach who gave him his first grade opportunity Chris Anderson, because if he didnt have belief in Hilder we may not have seen him in first well done Ando

Don't be too sure of that SSB68, guys like Theo Burgess had alot to do with Hilder coming up thru the grades.

Anderson's only interest in Hilder would have been the fact that he WASN'T Dean Treister or Nick Graham or Paul Mellor or Preston Cambpell or Chris McKenna.

As Ando showed early last season, he wanted a totally NEW LOOK side. So we ended up with unknown names like Milford, Bird, Hilder, Emilio, Anderson Jr, Wessell, Youngquest, Tweddle in our side. Yes, there were a few familiar ones like Stevens, Peachey, Kimmorley, Nutley and Bailey, but there was an endless stream of players who, IMHO, were brought in simply because they WEREN'T part of the old group of players.

Oh, and we got belted for how many rounds?

Now, of those 'Nevilles' that ran out 12-18 months ago, who is left?

Hilder & Bird. And even then, Bird is only just hanging on!

Young Waltzing Matt Hilder was always gonna make it, because he had something special that those other guys lacked.

2 Unit maths, my ass. Its a simple pythagorean calculation

Length of goal line = 68m
Divide by 2 = 34m
Take the ball back = 20m

So, the length of the kick is the square root of (34x34) + (20x20)

= square root of 1156 + 400

= 39.45m

Um, Anderson bought 60% of those players too...
