Gould should be made an offer he can't refuse otherwise the NSWRL should offer Wayne Bennett the job.....

It's not like NSW doesn't have the coaches to do the job, DA,Dessie,Cartwright and Smithy all could do a good job. And then there is Gus who i doubt would come back unless he was offered the world. But first the Muppets selecting the side should be banished for good.

Lol @ those who suggest selecting a coach who can fire NSW up the most. Sure, it'd be great if the coach had that quality, but there's more to coaching than that and we need a coach who's a smart footy brain and knows about stuff like um... tactics... for a start. If the players need firing up then get some of the old Blues players in just in a consultancy role, a motivational speech, most players would do it for free. It shouldn't be the coach's role to fire the team up.

True but most of the ex players I mentioned weren't just plodders and I certainly don't claim to have any knowledge of their coaching prowess, but surely amongst that list there would be someone who could tick the boxes.

In my opinion, coaching origin is very different to coaching NRL club games tactically, hence I preferred guys not in current club coaching roles ( bar Hasler, that i'm aware of)
The guys playing origin shouldn't need skills coaching etc, it should all be about tactics, including firing them up and using them to the best of their ability....

I'm pretty sure I've heard former origin coaches say something along the lines of ' the players pretty much coach themselves at this level.'

I agree with you to a certain extent. We definately need a coach not affiliated with a club side. However, we do need tactics when you're playing a QLD side as good as this one. We need a side built upon a plan by the coach. QLD are pretty much a club side. They're a proper team as they've had to same guys in their key positions for the past 5 years and they've played together so many times (not just for QLD but Australia too) that they all know their job and each others games so well.

NSW aren't in the same position. We just have a random bunch of blokes thrown together every year and called a 'team'. As QLD play like a well structured club side, they need to be coached against as a well structured club side. We need an experienced coach who knows the right team structure to pick, and has the right tactical skills and game plans to find a way through this Maroon brick wall. That is extremely important. Our team cannot coach ourselves because they're really a 'team' like QLD are.

Ricky Stuart is without a doubt the best man for the job next year given he's leaving the Sharks. He has been there before, and his coaching faults mainly lie in his chopping and changing every couple of years and player management. That's not much of an issue for a 3 game series. Nathan Brown is another good option. He's coming back to Aus anyway. He had mixed success at the Dragons but overall did a reasonable job, plus he's improved greatly as a coach since going to the UK apparently.

Agreed...except on Stuart..... Brownie could be great...he might slap a bit of fire into the bellies of some of them.
