Hindmarsh is now suspended and not playing

"But what has angered the Eels is news that even if Hindmarsh does miss the tournament he still has to serve a one-match suspension in the Eels' first trial match."

Sorry JTS. But it still sucks whatever way you look at it. If he can't play in the sevens then his suspension should be lifted. If it isn't lifted then he should be able to play in the sevens which if I am lead to believe is correct is not sanctioned by the NRL?

Man that sucks, why supsend him from the World Sevens, trial games and NRL Round 1. I mean at least the World Sevens, or even the trial games.

Bloody Judicary.

Does anyone read around here????? :-s But seriously folks. Please re -read the article. Hindy serves his suspension in the FIRST trial match which leaves him eligible to play against the Doggies. The gripe the Eels have is that if he misses the 7's as well as the first trial match its effectively more than a one match ban.

Thats a sigh of relief, I got told that he was suspened in Round 1 from the 2KY sports show this morning.

I cant open the link anyway for some reason, but thanks for telling me Colonel, at least it just the one trial game.

I think the Eels should think themselves lucky that the NRL count a trial match as an official match.
Personally I think that if you get suspended from NRL games then it is only NRL games that you cannot play.

GET OVER IT!!!!

I agree with Moggles

I wish Fitzy and co would accept the umnpires decision in not allowing him to play in the 7's and should count himself lucky playing in the big one against the dogs.

"In passing his judgment on suspended players in relation to the World Sevens, Woods referred to section 16 of the code of conduct, which says suspended players cannot play in the NRL or related competitions."

I don't understand the ruling??

Obviously the above statement makes sense, in that a suspended player cannot take part in the NRL or related competitions. But if he misses the 7's, then he is no longer a suspended player (having served his ban) thus should be able to play in the trials.

Is this in anyway similar to the Tuqiri case a few years ago where he was suspended and used the S.O.O. as his suspension. THAT case was a joke, he shouldn't have even been selected for origin if he was suspended and should have served the ban and miss a bronco match.

Anyway hopefully Alan Sullivan can tell the NRL to "Go F*&K themselves" if they think the ruling makes sense. In legal terms of course ;-)

What actually happened was the team for Origin was selected however they left the winger spot vacant. They then named Tuqiri in the Broncos side to play that weekend before Origin - as he was suspended he couldn't play so he served his one match ban. He was then named in the Origin squad on the Monday.

It was indeed.

Nice loophole, the QRL are good at finding and exploiting things like that.

Then if the 7's counts towards nothing, aside from the NRL matches anyway... Then would it not make sense for hindy to be allowed to play????????

I'm just glad he doesn't miss the Bulldogs match, as that's the main thing here! I agree with Moggles and Co that we're lucky they even count trial matches for suspensions incurred in an NRL match...

Not a big deal about him in or out of the Sevens, maybe he wouldn't have even been picked for the side!! I guess the NRL has to take that stand with the Sevens, otherwise every club would use use that as a way to select players who could then start the season clean, after maybe having "gone the thug" in their Round 26 games the previous year.

Fitzy and co should just let them get on with it all, and not "cry wolf" this early in the season imo, about something as small as this!

maybe he wouldnt be picked for the sevens id say he would have as smith said in the article he was man of the tournament last year and youd want your best man in the team to defend our title especially since smith takes it so seriously.

want i dont get is if his misses the sevens why cant he play the first trial game.

and if the games r sanctioned by the nrl how can they have any authority over the matter in the first place.

So let him miss the 1st sevens match against the Sharks and then he can play after that, I thought the IRL and ARL were running the sevens anyway, not the NRL.

I dont even like Hindmarsh playing in the 7's.

Why rish a player so vital to our success in some pre season competition. Just look at what happened to barrett last season thanks to the 7's.

Way i see it, if the eels had a trial game organised prior to the 7's he would serve his suspension then, and be available for the 7's!

Fitzy. If you want i will get a bunch of lads together and we will have a run this weekend against the Eels. That should take of the suspension and it will be smooth saling from there.... :D

yep, i am definitely in. I'd fly up from Melbourne for that one for sure. I'd be happy to get smashed in a tackle from the Eels pack...

anyway, the ruling is a joke because as many of you have already said either they view the Trials as an NRL sanctioned event or they don't. If it is then it should count towards any suspensions, and if it isn't then suspended players should be able to play and count the next trial or proper match as part of their suspension.

But the great news is surely that Hindy will miss a non premiership match as his suspension, he won't be risking injury in games that ultimately don't matter for much, and he'll still have a few runs under his belt before Round 1 through the other trials anyway.

let's not get too worked up about what is ulitmately a pretty small affair. I think we are all a bit starved of league news really...

bring on NRL 04...
