I was just thinking about their chances for EURO 2004 and came up with this team:

--------------------------------Westerveld-------------------------------

Reiziger-------------Melchiot--------------Stam-------Van Bronkhorst

Seedorf----------Van Bommel------------Davids------Van Der Vaart

--------------------Van Nistelrooy---------Kluivert----------------------

BENCH:

Edwin Van Der Sar
Kevin Hofland
Phillip Cocu
Nigel De Jong
Clarence Seedorf
Andy Van Der Meyde
Arjen Robben
Robin Van Persie
Roy Makaay
Pierre Van Hooijdonk
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

Now if that is not a class line-up then i dont know what is. Brilliant attack, great midfield and a solid defence. Add to that Van Der Vaart roaming infield supplying the strikers as well as a world class bench i cannot understand why Holland have underachived so much with this type of squad at their disposal.

Thoughts?

Van Nistelrooy seems to have fallen out with the manager unfortunately and i guess you can only hope its sorted before the finals.

I agree though that Holland should be one of the favourites, on paper. But they have been pretty inconsistent over the past few years, what with missing the World Cup finals and now only in a play-off. Seems like they are under-achieving slightly.

I hope they go well though, as they are probably the team i would like to win it the most.

You look at the players available and you think they should be a great team don't you? Unfortunately it's the TEAM bit that's not working and hasn't for a few years. They just don't seem to gel together.

The Dutch manager Advocat has already said he wont play Kluivert and Van Nistelrooy in the same team anymore, he feels they are too similar in the way they play.

I'm surprised that Westerveld isnt even in the Dutch squad (well he wasnt last I checked), I would of though that him playing for a better club then Fulham would boost his chances of playing for Holland.

I was speaking with a Real Madrid fan on MSN last night, and he was jealous that we have Andy Van Der Maye.

Schneider plays for Ajax, he's only 19 years of age, has a fantastic free kick and has pace, very good young player, he won't be at Ajax for long.
