Sterlo's point was that you can never blow a penalty on suspicion. The rule book always states "If a player..........", not "If the referee thinks a player.........."so you'd rather them not call it and be right 5% of the time? I really didn't understand this point by Sterlo.
Harrigan admitting players were penalised on pre-concieved notions wasnt exactly made clear, but the implication was prett much there. Sterlo pounced because the line is so fine. The problem with what harrigan said lies in situation, such as the Melbourne grapple tackle era, is that they study the tape to see if a habitual offender "got away with it again", how come no one penalised Mebourne for the grapples?
Harrigan stated that the result of checking the tape was to see if habitual offenders got away with it - not to improve their game. Referees are closer to the action than a camera - yet they have to make split second calls that whoever views the footage doesnt.
