Home Ground Advantage???

This has been discussed before - but it seems a good time now to try to work out what a home ground advantage will mean during the semi finals.

I think most people would admit that all teams play better at home than away, but some teams definately have a bigger home ground bias than others.

Some of the reasons for home ground advantage are;
1/ The team doesn't have to go through the tiring process of travelling to the ground.
2/ The players are able to go through a routine that best suits them to get ready for the game from getting to bed early the night before to eating breakfast at the right time etc.
3/ Warm up routines are well rehearsed and can be run to a better schedule than at a different ground.
4/ The psychological effect of having the crowd on your side.
5/ Familiarity with playing conditions at your ground. (playing surface)
6/ Familiarity with climate conditions at your ground. (weather)

Many of these factors come into play more during the playing rounds more than they should during the semis.
1/ Travelling - During the rounds it is not always possible to travel a few days before, but this should be possible for the semis game where no expense will be spared.
2/ Players routine - I think most teams will go into a mini camp before the semis game and an early night and good preparation will be assured.
3/ Warm up may not be as good as a home game routine but every effort will be made to get it right.
4/ Many more fans than usual will travel to the semis - so most teams will be well supported no matter where they play.
5/ The home team will always know the 'rub of the green' but I don't think this is a huge factor.
6/ Brisbane will have an advantage in hot conditions if they play the warriors maybe - but climate shouldn't be a huge factor because the weather should be pleasent in all areas at that time of year.

Brisbane and Newcastle are the teams with the biggest home ground advantage in normal circumstances, but Brisbane will not be able to use their homeground for the semi, so that leaves Newcastle, who will attempt to preserve their advantage by selling as many tickets as possible to the hometown crowd - and the game will sell out within a few hours I think.
Parramatta, Canterbury and Cronulla will get a big advantage if they play an out of town team, but other Sydney teams will get their fans to the game for sure. Saints also have a chance. I wonder where they would play?

All in all I think many of the factors that lead to a home ground advantage will be overcome by good planning and preparation by the travelling side, so I think the home ground advantage will not be as big a factor as it is in normal rounds of the competition.
