Does nine show games in Perth on gem regularly ? A Perth fan told me he watched tigers sharks on gem live.

Is that a regular thing for all the fta games each week ?
Yeah, that's been the case for years now. Origins and Grand Finals being shown on Nine being the exceptions. And during the Olympics, where I think some games were on ..uhh... whatever the other 9 station is (I'm having a blank moment!). *EDIT: 9Go.*

As recently as 15yrs ago possibly, games were only shown after midnight on Friday and Sunday nights (Origins and GFs exepted) ... unless a tennis or golf tournament was on, in which case the NRL would be lucky to start before 4am.
The worst was 2000 or 2002 (I forget which). Even Origin that year was a 30mins highlights package at about midnight. I was over visiting family in Newcastle, and coming home I was in the small plane coming to Sydney that also had Ben Kennedy, Adam MacDougall, and maybe one or two other Knights who'd been selected for NSW. I was explaining to them this 30mins Origin game highlights was all Perth had gotten for the previous game or two, and BK was astounded at how bad that was.

These days I'm a middle-aged man who never takes NRL live on TV for granted ... especially here in Perth.

That’s not bad it’s shown

Didn’t realise it was

I’m guessing Melbourne would be the same except their big games.m might be on the main channel

Wonder if Adelaide gets games on gem

Ben Kennedy was such a good player

You know mad dog is worth over 635 million now

Joeys my favourite player ever. When his book came out they had a cardboard cutout of Joey out the front of the bookstore but they wouldn’t give it to me cause it was promised to someone else … so I stole it. It was funny walking up Burwood rd with it

97 I was thinking of giving up rugby league I was over the bs.

That and qld origin win in 1995 were the only good things out of that era

If Newcastle had gone to super league the arl goose was cooked

I was at the opening of Suncorp knights v broncos. Joey put on a Masterclass

How much are Billy Moore and Greg Florimo involved with the Perth Bears?
Nobody knows atm, I’ve heard whispers that the Bears may have two board members on the Perth Bears Board: Billy Moore and Tony Crawford, Flo is still heavily involved with the Bears and occasionally runs the water for the NSW Cup side, I haven’t heard anything on Flo’s involvement.

Do the maths. 20 games x 25 people x $1200 per person (and I'm being conservative, Sydney flights alone cost me $1200-$1500 return when I got here in 1999) = ............

Edited for return flights

haha AI. very artificial not so intelligent.
I lived there in 92-94 and went back a few time sin 95. Prices were high considering the average wage was about $320 in the hand per week.
I never saw $1200 but I did see $750 returns in peak season. Usually they were $550-600. A Special Deal was $450.
Put that into now what an average person earns and you can see that it was expensive to get a return to Sydney.

It definitely interesting given people on here are quick to claim what this club is and isn’t without knowing how the club is made up.

Melbourne was the same.

Now most of the FTA is shown on GEM, but sometimes the Storm games are on the main channel. The obvious difference being that they are shown at the same timezone as the East Coast.

I'm happy that Perth has a team but I have a lot of questions.

How will they compete? The Dolphins were in a Rugby League heartland, had one of the greatest coaches ever, a pre-existing staff, pre-existing supporters and they still have had their struggles and not been a really competitive side as of yet.

Perth not only are at a significant geographical disadvantage but the rumoured coach is Brad Arthur who is average, they'll struggle to attract actual legitimate key staff members, no support base as of yet, it's a big gamble.

In terms of players, Perth will need marquee players not just for on field success but also marketability, how will they attract them? "Hey Payne Haas want to leave all your friends and family behind to play under Brad Arthur in Perth? We'll pay overs". No way.

For me it's all well and good to have a Perth team but unless you have a way of being competitive on field then it is pointless. Unless I'm really missing something I can't see many players going to Perth, they'll be the team that players with no other options go to instead of Super League.

Hope I'm wrong.
