Anyone in here do much or any home recording?
I am thinking of getting a Mbox mini.

It is a pretty basic form of pro tools.
You get a basic version of the program plus this contraption to plug your guitar and stuff into.

Yeah ive been recording a heap of songs that ive wrote, I use Audacity recording program
which is a free download, Ive got a guitar pedal with a usb chord which has
heaps of drum beats which are pretty awesome, I record like drum and bass or drum a rythm guitar together then add bass or more guitar to the track,
then I have a little mixer that ive connected to my soundcard, with a mic plugged
in, in which I add lyrics, its pretty cool, I burned a CD with 14 of my songs. Its abit of fun.

I've also got Audacity but I've been having a stack of trouble.

I think it's mainly related to the amplifier that I'm using. I'm playing electric guitar, bass and keyboard through an Ashton mini amp (25 watts), which then has a jack plugged into an ordinary cord running straight into my laptop. I have had no luck getting any noise apart from a heap of electrical feedback - and I've tried on plenty of different recording and volume settings.

Any suggestions?

mate that is why I am going for the above contraption.

It is designed purely to plug your guitar into it with a USB cable straight into the computer.
I think the program comes with effects for guitar as well. so need need to go through your amp.

I was told to get this by a guy who works at studio 201 in Sydney as a rec eng.

He said it is super easy to use..
That is good for me because I glaze over trying to read manuals.

It is only about $350 aus dollars.

It is meant for home demos and stuff really.
Perfect for writing songs on to give to other band members to learn at home .

Carch,

I have used a very similar product by M-audio which is an audio interface much like yours. Cost me about $270 and does exactly what It says.

The software was dodgy (i use cakewalk sonar instead) and I MUCH prefer to record the sounds I create from my guitar/amp/effects set up than to try and use software to add my effects/tone but thats just me. I simply wanted something that sould record to my PC, so I mike up my amp and then mike goes into my interface which sends to PC and Sonar records as many tracks as I like.

For anyone with extra bling the tascam fw 1082 is pretty good value at around $1200 if you record a band and would rather mix with real faders than with a mouse.

However for simple recording Id say you cant go wrong carch with what your gonna buy, especially for the price.

I use a motu 828 mkII.

There's one on ebay at the moment for about 12 hunj.

You definitely get what you pay for with this stuff, but if you just want to plug your guitar in and pump out stuff for rehearsals the mbox is pretty tidy.

Carch, you should call sound devices in the city for advice ....their webby is www.sounddevices.com.au

Their number is Ph: (02) 9283 2077

They're top blokes and will give you plenty of time on the phone. They're the kings of this stuff.
