Hooker position is finally solved

Firstly I would like to say that that was the best team Parra performance that I have seen since we beat Melbourne last year. I almost had tears in my eyes watching the boys do a number on the Warriors. How good was that? A team that is so well drilled in all the little things, from playing the ball emphatically and with speed, to chasing dropped ball with commitment, to moving up at speed as one in defense, e.t.c.

But just an observation. After watching Casey Maguire play so brilliantly at hooker with the quality of service that he provides and the direction he gives the team, which is better than anyone else that we have in the team, I believe that he should play the whole 80 mins.

This is not a slight on MK, who played well in the time that he was on the field, it is just that CM played so freaking well why take him off. And by doing this it would allow us the benefit of adding another gorilla onto the bench like Carl Webb, giving us an awesomely powerful rotating pack. We do not need two hookers in this team.

Oh while I am at it, our men out wide, though I can't fault them on effort, are very average to say the least. We definitely need some changes in this area for sure if we don't want a repeat of the last twenty minutes of the weekend's game to become a trend.

So in closing my eventual team barring injury and form would be -

1. Hayne
2. Burt
3. Reddy
4. Whatuira
5. Filiga
6. Mortimer/Maitua
7. Robson
8. Mannah
9. Maguire
10. Allgood
11. Hindmarsh
12. Lasalo
13. Horo

14. Smith
15. Moimoi
16 Shackelton
17. Webb

Note: On Maitua, if he comes back and his form is deserving of a place in the team and if Morts form has not improved much I would play him at 6. For what Morts brings to the team at present(catch & pass), I think a creative player as good as Maitua would do it on his ear, and defensively the opposition teams would not be spotting him as much as they do Morts. If Maitua doesn't regain quality form, then I would go with Humble, if he ever reappears again that is.

Thoughts.

Yeah I'm pretty good at that.

Question: I know Ken Sio is out injured but can someone please tell me what the injury is and is it still thought of as a season long injury, or is there some chance of him coming back this year? Cheers.

I don't get the Filiga love. I would have thought that he needs to put 6 games together in reggies before he deserves consideration.

Was definitely surprised to see MK come on in the first half. I hope that isn't the gameplan from here on in. Unless of course Casey just doesn't have the legs to last any more?

That must be the only reason Casey came off - to have a break. Maybe once he gets match fit (for NRL) he may be able to play the full 80min, if so that will be a huge boost for the side. I agree we shouldn't have a hooker taking up an interchange spot.

Maybe it was just me, but MK and CM were playing an identical role in the team and it suited our new style of play.

Yes they did. But we really need someone better in the halves. They both played to the best of their abilities, which isn't so great, but it worked for the team against the Warriors. But if we can get someone with a bit more creativity in there it would give us so much more as a team.

He probably doesn't. The bloke is 32 and been out of the NRL for 5 years... even throughout his entire NRL career he was never a starting hooker. He practically played off the bench for the Broncos as a utility every week.

Ram, just for your benefit, Whatuera was attrocious from Wrnty on saturday and on that performace shouldn't be any where near first grade in the immidiate future.

Gronk is right regarding Filiga, but I will add that he actually needs to finish a game before we even consider him, too injury prone at the moment.

Fair enough Stagg, but people have been saying that he was probably the form centre in the trials and if so, maybe it was just an anti-climax for him not being selected in firsts. Or did the Wenty team as a whole play really badly also?

As for Filiga, obviously he would have to get back on the field and start to show some form. But if he were to show glimpses of his potential, I would slot him straight into firsts on the wing. People have to remember that there are hundreds of examples of players playing average in the lower grades, but then getting picked in firsts and stepping up big time.

The point is that many players need to be tested at the highest level for them to click into gear. When playing in front of a handful of people in the minor grades many just cruise or just seem disinterested.

My backlogs would look like this for panthers game (one game at a time)

1. Hayne
2. Burt
3. Whatuira
4. Morgan
5. Walker

Morgan did nothing to say he doesn't get a run and other then etu taking out Manu his positional play is much like grothes

So push walks out to the wing and bring hicks or fats in the centres

Tommy Humble update: Not playing this weeks, looking to back on the field in 1-2 weeks. Please don't ask me what is the reason for his absence. Cheers

FMD MacGuire did nothing special at all - did he make any breaks? - did he set up and tries? I remeber he made one mistake close to the warriors try line so there is yards of improvement in him.

He was alright and some of you guys are making him out like the second coming of PJ Marsh:D
