FMD MacGuire did nothing special at all - did he make any breaks? - did he set up and tries? I remeber he made one mistake close to the warriors try line so there is yards of improvement in him.

He was alright and some of you guys are making him out like the second coming of PJ Marsh:D
LOL You're not wrong but I guess that just highlights the low standard he is being compared to from last year.

That's not a hooker's role to do any of those things. I agree he's getting more raps then he deserves... But as far as his role in the side goes he did quite well. He served his purpose.

Why would it not be the hookers role to make breaks and set up tries?

FC, that's only for the good teams.

For Parra,

The hooker just passes quickly from the ground.

The halves don't have to kick or produce try assists

The 5/8th only needs to be able to kick 20m and doesn't need to be able to throw long passes or setup plays.

We are rebuilding FFS. Get with the program.

Come back in 5 years time, then you might be able to talk about these things.

BTW, Trent Hodkinson played quite well.

i'd sya he setup our first try to robson .... because he took a few steps out of dummy half he attracted an extra defender which made a small hole in the dfensive line - sure robson still had to beat a couple, but he wouldn't have had any chance had mcguire not sucked in the extra defender

and that was exactly what mcguire did over and over that gave us an upper hand - he took a few steps out of dummy half before passing ... which makes the defense think about whether he might run - so they can't ALL swarm at the guy doing the hitup .... we never had that recently, so our runners just got mobbed .... its such a simple thing but it makes a real difference ... watch farah and smith, they do it regularly

Not to mention his faining to go in one direction, but the stepping back and going in the other at lightening speed, which again throws off the defense. Farrah, Smith & in particular Ennis do this often.

The hooker's role is to set the platform for the forwards. Pass the ball quickly, and defend strong in the ruck and basically organise the defence. And also organise the attack. If you have a nifty hooker who makes breaks and sets up tries, that's just a bonus... but it's not their role in a football team. The best number 9 in the game, Cameron Smith, rarely makes breaks, rarely sets up tries himself, but he is by far the best number 9 in the game right now.

mcguire is just a pure rugby league player with a brain, its super easy to see. he's impressed bigtime in pre season to get a starting gig in front of 2 other players. it was a few years ago now but his partnership with lockyer was great & he still looks like that sort of player. super early but could end up being buy of the year

Mcguire was great bu the way the team worked with the dummy half flat off the ruck was the most impressive feature. I reckon whichever player comes in to the dummy half role will do much better than in previous seasons.

It has had an impact in our ability to get out of our own end, our ability to score points, and our ability to stay in the arm wrestle. Those have all been major issues for us in the past. Hope it is sustained and improved.

Gee I hope we have solved that problem. Our ability to make yards of our own line was pathetic last year. Then with a girly shallow kick on the 5th tackle gave teams great attacking position.

Good to see Hayne taking a lot of the kicks out of our end.
