Hopgood and Penisini

Hopgood and Penisini have become frustrating liabilities in a side that can’t afford passengers.

Both are slow, one-dimensional players who consistently halt any momentum the team builds. Whether it’s Hopgood’s robotic hit-ups that go nowhere or Penisini’s clunky defensive reads and lack of spark in attack, they drain energy from the group. They don’t bend the line, they don’t break the line, and worst of all, they seem completely incapable of adapting or elevating their games when it matters.

No matter how well the rest of the team is going, these two find a way to bring the standard crashing down with their inept play, killing rhythm and letting everyone else down week after week.

Hopgood has been terrible but I disagree about Penisini not bending the line. He does break tackles (had 3 tackle breaks tonight) but his errors and defence are killing us atm.

These 2 have the skillsof a reserve grader. And the footy smarts of a peanut. If they somehow got the sack tomorrow it would be the best recruitment news of 2025.

My problem with Penisini is that when he does find space, his natural tendency is to run towards the sideline and not set up his winger. Too many opportunities go to waste.

In defence, he plants his feet and will always be sucked in by the decoy runner. Yes he is strong but he just doesn't have the pace to be a top quality centre. We need to do better.

Hopgood can throw an offload and put people into a gap, but he isn't good enough to do it consistently. Yes he can tackle, but his lateral movement is terrible and gets isolated almost every game.

Then there are the unforced errors....

Let him go back to offloading

Hopood was fine when we were playing parraball and flinging offloads, but now that Ryles has them playing with structure he looks like a gumnut in attack.

Sounds like what @JokerEel

Was saying about his brother in NSW Cup yesterday.

Lomax has 13 errors, 2 penalties for the year...Penisini had 13 errors and 4 penalties for the year.....
Lomax runs the ball twice as much as Penisini so it's a stupid argument to compare.

Lomax had the most errors in the comp last year and got picked for Australia/NSW.

I will argue today's mistake was crucial and unforgiveable.

Penisini is rubbish and honestly Rugby don't want a bar of him which is saying something how much they are crying out for players and being Suaalii best mate.

Lomax’s error count is always misleading

two of his errors today were from dumb passes from iongi and Penisini, another one was from competing for the ball in the air
