What's the point of having Hoppa in the centres or the wing, when you've got Sandow as your halfback?

2011

Linebreak Assists:

9 Cherry-Evans
9 Sandow

Try Assists:

19 Cherry-Evans
18 Sandow

He's no more a ballhog than the Manly halfback by the looks of things.

Sign of the clubs health imo.

We're producing poachable juniors. Good luck to him, I imagine it's a better deal than we put on the table. No arguing with that. He's a great player, potentially a future great of the game, but he's got a big family to think about.

Nothing but respect for the kid and I wish him the best. I pray he doesn't get a premiership with Parra however!

I applaud this comment, when you guys poached T-rex I wish I could have been so amicable. No one can argue it isn't without risk but I guess every contract contains some level of risk for both parties. I think Hoppa will probably move to fullback with Hayne into 6 and that is SK long term plan for their "spine" with Loko and E.Tonga in the centers.

You forgot the big stat... 3 finals game wins and GF ring. That's 3 more finals than Sandow has played, let alone win. Souths have only won 3 games in nearly 40 years. Lucky he is leaving I guess.

800K... That is unbelievable. Good luck to him. He is set for life after this deal and he doesn't have to play for 2 years out of the 4. Glad we didn't pay that sort of coin, and super happy Parramatta has. Any suggestions the salary cap will instantly jump to 7.2m after the next contract are dreaming. If it does go that high, it will be a gradual rise.

Stewart had 2 years out of the game and is still far from 100% back to his best. He remained in full time training during this period too. Tough ask to be back at 100% without proper training 2 years out of the game. This will be a test for the Eels...

There is a decent chance he has been signed to play fullback regardless, Hayne may very well have moved to five-eighth by then. Even so, Sandow is a great attacking halfback and would do well with Hopoate, Hayne and our other backs outside of him.

You really believe he will be on 800K per year? It's a laughable amount, you should know it is false when the Weasel's sources were "Manly insiders".

As a avid eagles fans, well parra get one up on us. Good on the kid super money, the one thing i have to say to parra fans with the we got one up one you is well no you did not, we got jamie lyon who has had a massive influence on 3 grand final appearances and 8 back to back finals campaigns then turned trex into a dud footballer who hindmarsh did not rate and Jamie Buhrer so no we still have the ledger.

Good luck with his old man on coaching staff that is all i can say, see ya later hopoate one thing don't come back when things turn to shit at parra like they always do.

While the kid is a super talent we still easily won games with out him when wolfman and robbo where on wings, our club will win more titles as long as dce, foran, lyon, watmough and stewart boys. Our wing will still be strong david williams back ben farrar back from france, oldfield and whare as back up.
Young lussick is a rep player of future so more grand finals for manly more false hopes for parra.

The thing i read about was he left because he wanted to be coached by Kearney as well as the $$ on offer. another season or 2 like this years for Parra and he wont be around i reckon.
Still excellent money for an outside back. but i think he wants to play fullback and that aint happening with snake there

Apparently the chance to play alongside Jarryd Hayne was a large factor in his decision as well; I don't actually know why but a lot of players that we sign or are linked to talk about "playing under Kearney". Until the Eels or Schubert or someone else come put and reveal what figure for his salary is the most accurate I wont be jumping around about his price-tag. 850K is a ridiculous figure, 500K is realistic given the probable cap increases.

You don't need players like that at the club , its a real shame you guys made him what he is and gave him a fair pay deal of what around 500 k a season when he comes back and he turned his head on it.

Don't get me wrong he is a great player but I am sure you will survive without him.

Good luck to him.

We'll probably just pick up the talented juniors Parra will have to let go to accommodate him.

That's got nothing to do with how well the two halfbacks get the ball to their outside men.

On the other hand, the stats I provided for LBA and TA have everything to do with it. You could even say Sandow managed the same output as Cherry-Evans while playing in a worse team.

When Brian Smith drove Noel Cleal away, he was replaced by Rod Reddy - the man responsible for our horrific junior retention over the past seven or eight years.

Fortunately for us, Kearney's first act was to give Reddy the arse and bring in Peter Nolan from the Broncos. He's the one respoinsible for our massive poaching spree of juniors from all across Sydney. I dare say he'll do a better job than Reddy of locking up our local talent as well.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Reddy has been employed by Manly the entire time, given how good he's been for you.

Apparently hop hayne and mannah while playing for city got close and hayne kept dropping hunts about returning for parra through twitter to hoppa for quite a while

It's about a significant amount of money, that's all, any other justification is misguided.

Fair enough too, can't blame him for taking it, or a club which is desperate for success for offering it.

Tell you what, you can have Sandow and we'll keep Cherry-Evans.
I'm sure you've got a halfback every bit as good as Cherry-Evans:sarcasm::sarcasm:
You could also say from that stat f*ck all, as compare the number of TA and LBA for our other players ie. Foran, Glenn Stewart (even Brett Stewart) and I think you'll find its shared around alot more than the rabble that was Souths creative nucleus.
Put those players in Souths lineup this year and Sandow would have had less TA and LBA assists as there would have been better players than him there to provide them.

Lol....he won't be on 500k, let alone 800k. I do love how people automatically believe every ridiculous salary the media make up though. Not sold on the signing myself. Not that he's not an excellent player, but who knows how he'll come back from two years out of the game...

Anyway, mostly making an enquiry about opinions on his brother Jamil and Luke Vescio, who we've apparently signed too...any good?

And yet another way of looking at it is DCE has achieved stats 'better' than a 4 year veteran. Imagine how good he will be in 3 more years.

DCE also doesn't let in as many tries as he sets up, actually I can't even remember DCE ever letting in a try.
