I wish I could have such great memories, but I only started following league after it sold out

No good wishing your life away...You can't buy experience or old age,,it is something that creeps up. I remember clearly my 21st, a couple of weeks later my fortieth, then a month later I was fifty...and then wooooooosh along came sixty...There is no goat like an old goat....
I wish I was as young as you so I could get to store more memories.....

No, it wasn't that big.. More like 18-12..Peter Matson kicked six goals and I think the late Ken Foord may have scored from an intercept..as was his special trait...

must be a different game

the one I remmeber was a sell out, people on the field and on the grandstand

we thrashed the Drags, only game they lost all year

Ian Walsh used to 'bag' his players in the Press. I think that is why he was off side with a lot of them. He tried to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear..you have to have the cattle as they say..and he didn't
He had good results with the Dragons but I don't rate him with the other ex St George coaches the Parra side had...(Killer or Norm Provan)..
Abdul brought Ken Thornett back from retirement...'the second coming' in 1971 (?)..and that helped get the team into the semi's.

"Sticks" coached us for only a season [1975] but it was incredible the sort of influence he brought to the club, Fearnely did get the credit he deserved after the success in the late 70's however it was Provan who laid the platform in that year, is that how you saw it??

mind you, Fearnely was largely responsable in getting Price, Cronin and Sterling at the club so he did well there that's for sure.

Terry took the reserve grade from wooden spooners to premiers in 1975. He was a first grade coach waiting his chance. His influence on the Eels should never be under estimated.
In his reserve grade team he had a huge prop named Steve Williams who scored one million tries - or thereabouts that season....a bloody lot anyway.
Terry also enticed John Baker to Parra from Wests and he was one tough hombre.
Terry Fearnley was responsible for the recruitment of John Quayle, Jim Porter and John Peard from the Roosters. He had good local kids in Fitzy, Geoff Gerard, Graeme 'Shovels' Olling, John "Things go better with" Kolc and Neville "You Bastard" Glover (just kidding Nev, you were great)
Mick Cronin didn't come until 1977. Crow was actually headed for Canterbury after promising Bullfrog he would play, but the Doggies had over stepped their import quota, so the Crow went to the Eels with Bullfrogs blessing.
How lucky was that!!!!
In my opinion,Terry Fearnley SHOULD have won two premierships with Parra...Manly and St George. Manly beat the Eels on scrum penalty goals, Garry Cook butchered the Eels in the tied Grand Final.
He is right up there with Gibbo as the people who taught the Eels how to win. Ironically, in the early sixties, Terry coached an Eastern Suburbs team that had Jack Gibson as a player...

Terry Fearnley really was IMO the best coach never to win a first grade premiership, Smithy comes a close second ;-)

The Crow was definitely headed to the dogs but decided to come here for only a year than go back to Geringong...10 years later he became a favourite son..he signed his first contract with the club on the bonnet of a car in Auburn late 1976.

Actual score was 19-8 (Mike Jackson, Ken Foord, Brian Hambly tries, Peter Matson 5 goals) defeated St George 8 Kevin Ryan John Greaves tries, Brian Graham 1 goal)
It was the second last game of a nine game unbeaten run with Ken in the side for a guest appearance.
sh*t he was a good player....
