No surprise gutless dog hodges calling for Hunt to be dropped. The same oxygen thief who played one of the worst games in origin history on debut. Ah, that famous qlderp loyalty is just breathtaking. Passssshhhuuunnnn!

Australia's population means shit when it comes to union. The All Blacks have the support of the entire nation whilst here Union is mainly based in private schools in Sydney and Brisbane and has a limited talent pool to draw upon. Union is our 4th or 5th tier thing with League, Cricket, flogball and arguably soccer ahead. Public interest, crowds and TV ratings are at an all time low, the Wallabies are losing constantly and the ARU have f**ked up broadcasting and grassroots rugby which has left a very negative vibe around Rugby for the last 3 years. At the Australia V New Zealand tests here at least 55-60% of the crowd are ex pat kiwis.

The All Blacks on the other hand are the closest thing to invincibility in sport you will find as you guys have incredible depth and amazing development that will always ensure someone just as good or better will come through. You have the support of just about everyone in the country and Union is the main priority for New Zealand sport.
Go back to the Rah you flog.

Yes union is dead in Australia. Correct.

Trying to restrict it to Super Rah is incorrect.

Union has no depth. Correct.

Without the private schools of Brisbane and Sydney, they have no players. Correct.

He loves the rah rah. Correct.

That seems unlikely. If the Bledisloe can survive when 13 or 14 years of NZ winning then Origin can survive 8 years.
As long as the games mostly remain competitive and we got a contest, people will tune in.

From 1990 - 2005 QLD won just 4 series. Seems to have survived that.

About 140 odd years ago an English paper called Cricket dead, seems to be still around.
This is an odd take.

The reason the Bledisloe thrives despite AUS not winning is because Rugby is NZ's bread and butter, their core passion in sport. If the shoe was on the other foot, Wallabies won 10-15 in a row and NZ rugby was in the toilet, shit would be dire.

The same applies to Origin - if NSW were to dominate, the series' significance would reduce. Without a strong QLD side the concept of Origin isn't as strong. Once they stop winning, the fans in QLD stop going.

Really depends. If every game is a 50 point hiding, then sure people would quit turning up and watching, people want to see a contest afterall. As long as both sides remain competitive Origin survives.
One or two blowouts won't kill it.30 consecutive blowout scorelines might. I don't see that happening though.

I think NSW will have the ascendency for the next couple of years while we scramble to fill the void left by Cronk, Thurston, Smith, Slater and so on. What makes it exciting is to see who steps up and fills that void and who doesn't. This series has been great entertainment. NSW have won those crucial moments and we've failed them.

And yeah NZ and a few aussies care about Bledislow even though every series is a forgone conclusion. NZ like beating us obviously, but at some point they might question why every year they're playing a side that can't hope to win. Where's the challenge?

Queenslanders turning on their own.

Amazing thing this legendary Queensland passion and loyalty.

It only appears when they're winning.
Loyalty has to be earned though, not handed out. Hunt hasn't done anything to deserve being picked on loyalty. Simply getting picked doesn't earn loyalty.
With QLD's depth as thin as it is he'll get another shot, they'll probably give him game 3 and go from there as it is, see if the Munster/Hunt combo can start to gel.

Even during the Maroons 8 straight only once did they win 3-0 and quite a few series went to deciders that went down to the wire, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2013 being obvious examples. So there was a definite contest more often than not that maintained interest. Thurston and co would always deliver the killer blow but now without them Maloney really pulled of the big moments and plays in this series.

And there has been some geniune concern from Kiwis about the bledisloe cup

Yeah, that's basically what I'm saying, as long as we have a contest that more often than not could go either way, we have a series. As we know TV ratings dictate what lives and what dies.
These things are cyclic, NSW dominated when Johns was at his peak, then QLD had the rise of Smith, Cronk, Thurston,Slater and the pendulum shifted. Now that they're gone, the pendulum is shifting the back the other way and so on we go.

And wow 16 years since Australia won a Bloodyslow. That's goddamn hilarious.
That a minor sport in Australia can keep a one sided series going for so long, I don't think Origin which is actually a contest is in much trouble of dying anytime soon unless we're invaded and our new overlords cancel it.

We (NZ) keep the Bledisloe alive, much like QLD keep Origin alive. Aussie crowds turn out cos Australians are competitive and they really want to see us get beat. Whereas the Kangaroos couldn't pull 30k vs the Kiwis in the same stadium while favourites with a team of much better and more entertaining athletes. Australia enjoys the sense of achievement they get from beating the world's best, so they're happy to keep chasing the dream of the odd win and possibly turning the tide in the future (like the 91-94 period in Union). Australian rugby fans don't want to accept that a small country with a tiny population completely owns them.

When NSW won 3 in a row, some said Origin was dead then. 8 wins in a row by the team with a bigger pool of players to choose from would completely murder the concept.

Apart from Kurtley Beale and obviously Folau, the players the end up playing for a Wallabies are ordinary athletes / players. I honestly believe the best athletes in Australia player every sport bar union.

Let this sink in, Foley who is one of the most limited athletes I've ever seen and he is the starting 10 for Australia.

Plus super rugby is a horrendous competition only played on fox.
