How long until we lose Ben Hunt?

He is not a hooker and you can see by his kicks that he would benefit the side immensely if he got a shot at halfback

you can't have this calibre of halfback stuck behind of a hack like Scott Prince and Peter Wallace

don't think other teams aren't scouting and potentially ready to poach

He's off contract at the end of this year I think..I don't think we'll keep him unfortunately..Macca will be 24 next year with what? 120+ games under his belt? If he can't handle a full 80min game by then he probably never will..So I see Griffin (or whoever has his job) letting him play the 80.. Couple with Prince and Wallace both on contract til the end of 2014..I expect Dragons, Panthers or Raiders to put in a bid.

There's a spot for Ben Hunt in the team if he's patient, especially with Corey Norman gone. Scott Prince is getting old and Peter Wallace is, well, sh!t.

There must be a reason that Hook is keeping him on the bench, to keep him happy (enough) while he waits. It must be that reason as it sure as hell doesn't make us a better footy side with Hunt playing back-up hooker.

I don't get how every other person can see Wallace is not the answer at halfback except Hook. Only thing I can think of is Wallace gives a world class gobby in Hooks office after training.

If Ben Hunt had been given the same opportunities as Macca in 1st grade he would be leading the team around and this thread would never have been started.

Youse are going to lose him and regret it.

I think McCullough has banged out the odd 40-20.

Ben Hunt deserves at least an extended chance to show us what he has got.

surely with Corey Norman gone, Hunt will be keen to establish himself as a marque player for the Broncos?

That depends on the coach. You get the impression that even if Wallace or Prince got injured he'd move Gillett or Glenn into the halves. The last thing this team wants is someone who's going to go off gameplan from time to time and play what's in front of them. Offering nothing in attack is fine, but someone taking risks would be disastrous.

I feel like I am in the minority here when I say that I think Ben Hunt is hugely overrated by certain members on this forum. It might be in large part due to the fact he hasn't been given a decent enough shot, but at the end of the day, he may have been a competent Halfback but he was no Cronk. Sure enough, I would take him over Wallace anyday, but Wallace seems to be a protected species at Brisbane.

Going back a few years, Cronk was no Cronk. I recall his early days being nothing flash however each season he brought a new aspect to his game to the point that he is now arguably the best half in the game. IMO, Cronk is the example of a "developed" half - what can be done with a solid half with patience, tutelage and a bit of luck (obviously Smith & Slater in the team doesn't hurt either). Again IMO, Hunt has a similar skill set to the early-version Cronk & with the correct development could easily steer a team around the park as a very good half. Whether the Broncs are aware of Hunt's potential & willing to start giving him more opportunity as the main half and exhibit patient with him in the short term remains to be seen. If it doesn't happen soon, the shortage of halves throughout the NRL will ensure his agent starts receiving calls.

Well Griffin said we are "developing within", but then said "we're in the market" So who knows where he stands with Hunt.

I'm at the point where I wish Wallace would get injured for a 6-7 weeks so we could bump Hunt to the halves and get an idea of what he can do. Then bring Wally off the bench to sub in for Macca for 15-20 mins. At this stage I just don't see any other way Hunt will be put in the 7 Jersey, where all his fans clearly want him.

And yes, very concerned he will be given a good offer next year and take off.

He doesn't seem to like improvisation, and he knows Wallace will go out there and do exactly what he wants him to do, regardless of how innefective it is.

We're in the same position as we were with Norman. Hunt should be playing Q Cup to sharpen his skills in his preferred position. He should have been sent there as a matched pair with Norman so they get a combination going. But players don't want to wait. Just like the rest of this generation, they want the payday now. In order to keep Hunt at the Broncos they've given him a token first grade spot. Same with Norman, I don't believe he'd have been started at FB this year if he hadn't said he's negotiating elsewhere.

Baptiste to bench hooker, as he should have been all last year. Until he's ready throw Granville there. Tell Hunt that there's a career position for him at the Broncos #7 as long as he can prove himself in the #7 for a feeder club. If that's not good enough, there's the door. In contrast, look at Hoffman. Pushed to the wing, and just says 'it's just another position, I'll play anywhere I can'. And he's been awesome. Just got on with it. He'd do the same even if he was sent to play Centre for Redcliffe again. We need more players like that, I just hope Hunt has more ethic than Norman.
