How rigged is racing?

Could well be the gripes of a punter

But for mine it seems increasingly evident that the levels of corruption in the sport are increasing. Everyone knows of the odd story where horses get pulled up, not ridden out etc...but you have to say, I can't believe how many $1.10 favourites getting rolled recently. And not to the second favourite...but to 20/1 plus nags with no form

Don't even start me on dogs and the trots!

Every time I walk in a tab I feel like I'm making a donation to people 'in the know'. Does anyone else ever feel like this or is it just me?

Time for me to walk away from it me thinks. Wish me luck guys, as something that runs deep in the veins for multiple generations, it is not going to be easy

If it wasn't for rigging racing would not exist.

Would never have been started.

It is not new.

Horse racing has never been as clean as it is today.

Don't bet with the TAB though, they're thieves.

I'd advise you to focus on your home state and get the feel for the trainers and jockeys.

Horse Racing is cleaner today then it ever was, and anyone who backs 1.10 favs deserve to do their money.

Never bet on dogs but the Trots are rigged to buggery.

Ha...I was willing to let it pass until recently when I spoke to a mate who is friends with a jockey in SA. He told him first hand that he is regularly instructed to pull them up, put them in a position where they can't win or ride their ears off at the start to give them no chance. This pushes up the price for the next start, at which point everyone in the know jumps on and smashes it. The Nikolic revelation was the tip of the iceberg in regards to what really goes on

He said that group races are really the only time when everyone has a crack

If its cleaner now than it's ever been I'd hate to see what it used to be like

I'm not saying my example is reflective of the entire country, but if you watch the races close enough, I don't know how you could be surprised

Totally agree with what you've said. Odds on - look on.

The dogs are good for a bit of fun.

Forget the trots. Anyone who is old enough to remember Russ Hinze, Queensland's Minister for Everything, knows how crooked he was. He had a bunch of trotters during the 1980s who won more than they should have. He ordered that all trotters be swabbed on the day of racing.

Except those he owned of course!

Haha not surprised!

But in regards to odds on...even if something is $1.10...that is a 10% return, more then you'd get in a year off most asset classes. Now if form suggests it is a lock, why should I pass in it? Or at least have an expectation that it goes very close to winning. I get all the cliches, but explain to me why you look on?

Because the risk is far far greater than the reward. I mean why would you put $100 on a horse just to win a lousy $10? Or even risk $1k for only a $100 return? Don't get me wrong i'd take $100 return on every bet i made any day of the week if asked but i sure as shit wouldn't want to be laying down a grand each time to do it, especially with no guarantees and as many variables as there are in racing.

The only way to make any decent money on it is to whack a million down for a $100k return but if you're that rich and have that sort of money to bet with then you don't really need it and $100k would be small change anyway. No matter which way you look at it, it just doesn't make any sense. Well at least not to me and i dare say the vast majority of punters.

Thanks munsie

Respect your logic even flow. Hard to define the risk though if on the surface, a horse appears to be 6 lengths better then anything else running

Still, undoubted risks in the running. One of which is corruption from all involved!
