How the hell is the salary cap working.

stats say roberts and monoghan are better this season, and will be better next season as well.

Doesn't matter what stats this season say. The stats when the contracts were signed is what matters. They are still paying Hodges huge money even though he's on the bench for PL until he fully recovers.

if its not rooster bashing mick (not intending to start an aguement) why are the team/s your always comparing salary cap issues/rorting/cheating ect the roosters?

i think your just hiding behind the "its not rooster bashing"

Because the Roosters are a prime example of a club at the top who can continuosly release players yet sign other players of a higher calibre. Their credibility is questionable.

"Questionable" to whom, exactly? Your statement is meaningless.

Watch your semantics, young man.

It is plainly obvious that if the top 6 clubs keep on signing all the good players then the struggling clubs will stay struggling and this comp will just be dominated year after year by the likes of the Roosters, Broncos, Dogs etc...I say we look at the cap a lot more closer because at the moment it is a bloody joke !!.

:|

What do you mean dominated by Roosters, Broncos and Dogs? Broncos haven't made a grand final in 4 years; Dogs in 6 years. Roosters one win that no one counts.

I wouldn't call that dominating.

Big Mick,

I can underttand you being cranky as you watch your team getting washed out from underneath you - but did you vent your pleen at other clubs like Wests, etc!

It wa an intersting comment that Sticky made on Radio today - that the Roosters offer was the lowest on the table compare to manly's, Canberra and whoever the other club was.

But sometimes money is not the end all - maybe he knew hat he would have a good coach, a good administration and a good team to play with for some years to come.

Hegarty was offerred a certain amount and his manager managed to wangle another $50,000 on top of that prior to the anti tampering date. His manager then came whimping and asked for a release for Hegarty something we let happen...

Don't blame us for buying players - if they wish to come they will come - you seem to forget how many Cronulla players came with Lang. Why? Because they were unhappy at that club.

I could make a list of players we have let go but I can't see the sense in it. Rugby League is now a professional game - Parramatta are buying players left right and centre - but do we hear anything about them?? NO! SO BM you are Rooster bashing

Excellent. I look forward to having them in the tricolours next season. Well done Roosters management. If only some of the other clubs were run as professionally and efficiently as ours.

How, how, how is it leveling the competition, when the team that is running 8 has their best back poached by the team running first? How?

The cap is fundamentally flawed in that there is no allowance for junior development.

And it is fundamentally flawed as it excludes "third party sponsorships".

The Raiders would be in a lot better position if the cap was abolished, as we are a fairly wealthy club and could easily spend more than the cap, but don't have multi millionaires on tap to offer "third party sponsorships".

greeneyed, the main reason for the cap was to prevent teams going broke. The draft was the equalizer. Blame Terry Hill.

It's not designed to "level" the competition; it's designed to stop clubs from overspending.

If you want a draft, lobby for a draft. No one's stopping you.

This is a stupid thread

you have no information on how much each player is earning... you are basing it on assumptions and your own opinion on how much someone earns and how good someone is.

if u got roberts for 50k, how on earth did u think he would stay there for 50k when u think his value is say 150k?

I think our management is underrated in its ability to scout and recruit wisely.

The cap is fundamentally flawed.... it should have a draft system, eg carmichael hunt should have gone to souths being the best rookie this season. they basically should just follow the american leagues.

the cap theoretically should advantage the teams with jnrs (ive had this convo before with panthers supporters) since they can get quality for cheap.
she hates me saying its a business, but it is, u buy quality for as low as possible in order to get a good team to win games.

i mean, no one wants to go to melbourne so they're paying bigger dollars to get people down there.

but hte point is, ppl dont like change.. change and innovation is what drives the market and pushes teams... complacency is what the comp crap

while we're on the "benefit of the NRL" the whole putting someone on "report" is also bloody stupid too... they should sinbin or examine any high tackle on the spot by the vdo ref and put that person in the sin bin for 5min. and any professional fouls should only be 5min, although i also question why this is the case anyway... 10min/80 is way too long.. 1/8th of the game? u get sin binned, u can come back and the game is virtually over... even if the team hasnt scored, the fact is that the remaining players on the field are drained from covering for a man off.
