How the Shire tensions affect the NRL

Mate, if you weren't aware, there are tons of st george fans who grew up and live in the shire. Today wasn't about football so stop using it to justify your hatred of the cronulla team. With statements like that you betray your ignorance and open yourself for ridicule.

I know that idiot.

In my personal experience St George fans from Sutherland are cut from a different cloth. No doubt there are some that would be more at home on the hills at Scum Park then at Jubilee but I'd say they're a minority.

Trust me, the last thing I want to do is to link this to football. But considering how many problems rugby league has had with the media over recent years, don't you agree that this is just a ticking time bomb?

I agree, it is a ticking time bomb, but it's a social problem not a football one. Sure it may rear it's ugly head at the football but fortunately we've had advance notice and the NRL can monitor it .It's just the people who are using it to justify their dislike of the cronulla team that perplex me.

You need to relax, you're sooooo tense.

no, no, no Pig Champion, it's OK to preach hate and use generalisations to do so as long as it is for your cause.

No different to the rednecks he is scorning, just a different focus for their petty hatreds, yet still trying to pretend he is above it.

The Canterbury and Cronulla teams need to get together and outlaw this behaviour right away.

They need to hold a press conference and get leading players to speak out against this behaviour.

Oh gee.

Brawls broken out at Maroubra AND Brighton Le Sands. If we're talking Football, I do believe Brighton is in the St George Region is it not?

So all you St George fans - STFU. Hypocritical F*cks.

Its got nothing to do with football, this is a stupid comparision and one that has no merit at all.

Why do you guys think that the people who started all these fights are all sharks fans, Does that mean the bulldogs supporters started all the tension between the lebenese and the Shire residents?

It's simple. The NRL is the only national football code with teams in both Cronulla and Bankstown. Consequence - rugby league will get a bad rap when these two teams play each other in 2006 if there are still tensions from today's events.

It's a bloody shame too, and an example of how hard it is for rugby league to shake the negative stigma surrounding the game. Hopefully I'm over-estimating the effect this will have, but I am definitely worried about it.

That's exactly what I thought when watching the news tonight.

Sharks v Dogs next year will be interesting on the field and in the stands.

No, it's a good idea if there's still trouble in February mate, but it's December and it'll probably calm down by then.

We can only hope so mate.

IMO once you use something like football to try and solve the issues, you make it part of the problem
