Losing a few scalps to union is a small price to pay compared to running the comp without a cap or a cap high enough to run some clubs into the ground. most clubs dont even want to foot an extra 100 grand a year to increase the cap let alone 1.5 million. and the NRL is not about to increase each clubs grant by that much i think its pretty safe to say that.

it is better that the nrl loses a few players a year than clubs going out of business and 2 horse race competitions. Honestly, losing tahu cross and schif is not going to break our competition. There are plenty of talented kids ready to take their place

Yeah totally agree with your point, but this is hypothetical. What if all teams could afford it and stay competitive what would the amount need to be?

going on the current decline in sydney (rl center of the universe) crowds, i,d say league in NSW should get its own house in order first.

I know ive posted heaps but i figured id at least give you some respect and see if your right about the current decline for the 9 Sydney teams.

Sorry to say that its not on the decline its increasing - 9% on last year and 17% since 03

13,438 - 03
14,281 - 04
15,831 - 05
14,441 - 06
15,780 - 07 up till the end of last round. And im pretty sure we have had some bad weather over the first few weeks this year.

Prior to 03 the avg gets lower and lower. I think the house is doing ok at the moment.

The ARU did not make an offer to Andrew Johns. Eddie Jones wanted him, but the High Performance Manager at the time, Brett Robinson, didn't. Eddie lost out.

Maybe Joey would have refused an ARU offer, but we will never know, because the only offer on the table was from the Waratahs plus third-parties.

It is only a matter of time before the European clubs start raiding the NRL playing ranks. Then you will have something to worry about.

The only people who should be worrying about European union clubs in pinching players are Oz union .ESL chases rugby league players and will continue to do so.
Anycase with the growth of the ESL expected to be 14 teams in the next couple of years(including another French team Toulouse perchance),rugby league clubs there will have more money to spend on Oz rugby league players.
Hell Matt Burke was let go to England, when he could have been of better use here.Says a lot about union officialdom's mindset. After seeing Lote's R&R in the tahs v Reds match last night, and knowing $1m was outlaid for him they have no idea.
The best way to stop union poaching is to do what the NRL has now done ,a national under 20 comp, making even less talent available for union.
Rugby league continues to grow rapidly in oz despite the raids of union and the ESL.It has a large base of the pyramid ,something union is lacking.
