Well I think I brought up the All Stars angle early in the other thread, as England vs Super League All Stars (at least 1 player from each team). The pride there is to be confirmed as the best player in your club and of the best in your league.
But as for Other Nationalities, I'm not sure if it that would have the same ring. Which 'Origin' does it cover? I'm not sure what pride there is in just being considered "The Rest". I think the Aus & Nz players would already have plenty of opportunity to perform at the highest level.
The idea that intrigues me the most is ENGLAND vs CELTIC
As Ireland, Scotland, Wales & Gaul were all a part of the original nations - and - these nations cover the other countries that we want to build up. The players in this game will take that experience with them back to their individual internationals.
As for team selection, I think the best way we can build this up and get people talking about it, is to adopt a partially publically voted selection process - for both sides.
Fans vote players in for their respective positions (so no club limit) and that takes up 50% of the vote. A selection committee of nominated players & coaches do the same for the remaining 50%.
Perhaps still call it an All Stars Game to distinguish it. SUPER LEAGUE ALL STARS: ENGLAND ALL STARS vs CELTIC ALL STARS
I just feel like that would sell better than the more generic 'Others' or 'Rest'
Like I said in the other thread, England vs Celtic (Ire/Sco/Wal) would be pointless. They'd only be a little bit better than Wales on their own (i.e. still way behind England) and it would harm the identities of the individual home nations (something that an All-Star game wouldn't do because they can't play for their home nations anyway).
I also agree that playing England 'A' against the French would be a poor idea. It demeans the French side, and would look awful in publicity if (or more like when) we beat them. France vs Wales would be a much better game. It's an actual test between two nations FFS!
If we want to blood some youngsters, have them play a Yorkshire/Lancashire clash as the curtain raiser. It won't demean any test sides then, and gives people that county clash that they've wanted.
