How would you like to be in Maguire's shoes?

The man hasn't even arrived and already he's on a hiding to nothing. How do you take a star studded but seriously underperforming side and turn them into an NRL premiership contender?
I don't know much about Maguire at all but i do know that if he can bring us that elusive 21st title he is guaranteed hero status, probably even more so than the players.

Just hope the guy has the balls to stand up and make the tough decisions under pressure even from within.He's going to have to be more than just a coach in my opinion.He needs to be a leader.

Every year that passes is going to make the task even more difficult.

What a fantastic opportunity for a guy with obvious talent to really make a mark. Sure we've underperformed but we do have a team (minus a halfback atm) that could do something if kept healthy and motivated.

This is a very special opportunity for our Mr. Maguire.

many coaches inherit a hospital pass from the previous year... and while 2011 looks a flop, we still have a strong roster, and our club is in a good position financially. He's also got Matty Johns on the staff, who has proved to be a quality assistant. He'd be looking at the club now and being concerned about attitude. But if he's worth his salt as a coach, he'll be excited for the challenge

If Rusty's and Richo's egos will allow Maguire to take full control of the team Maguire will have then have no excuses to not succeed.

Maguire has picked his own support staff a privilege/necessary other Souths coachs haven't been afforded.

Maguire has inherited a few world class players who are young and good enough to provide a platform to move the club significantly forward.

Imo it would be an awesome challenge to take on the Souths head coaching job. To actually turn the club around will be a great achievement. Yh I'd love to be in his shoes.

Can I just say from an English point of view, he took a Wigan team who hadnt won a title since 1998 to Minor Premiers and Grand Final winners in his 1st season with pretty much the same team that had failed in the semi's the previous 2 or 3 years.

Not only does he get his stars playing well, he gets his average players playing at a high standard too. Your defence will improve massively and you will see a good structured attack. Im not saying you should expect miracles over night, but you will see a vast improvment once he's in.

Tell you what, at the game sunday a group behind me were moaning about how we were becoming the storm and i was thinking to myself....who really cares. If he does thing his way (with his own people) and has shown it to work previously, then I think as an incoming coach he would rather take over a struggling team then one going really well. I mean, I may be looking too much into it, but just listening to how the likes of GI speak about him, you get the sense that he will get a bit more out of the players. If I was him I would be well up for the challenge.

The pressure will only increase if he wins it all again this year in the ESL (currently in 2nd just 1 point behind 1st and with a game in hand and with the least amount of losses in the league).

He wins 2 straight for a team who hasn't won in over a decade (a drought that is longer than it sounds for a big english club) and it only increases the expectation on his shoulders.

IMO he is the first truly 1st class coach we've had since readmission (no offense to the others), with assistant coaches he's been able to pick himself, plus the talent on the park to go all the way top 6 is par, with top 4 being what we really should be aiming for.

If he is going the have the final say on decisions he is responsible for then i think he will be looking forward to being a part of our club & steering Souths into the 2012 finals.
But if he is only joining our club just to become a part of the "boys club" then i dont think he will last that long especially with all the expectations going with the position.
