How's this for an idea?

I was just looking at the "Team VS Newcastle" thread, and somebody posted a team starring McKinnon at fullback, wearing the captain's tag.

And it hit me - Wagon is by no means a great captain, but he is not awful.

What about we give it to Thorman or Wade or Hindy, though?

Somebody who talks on the field, claps, revs the team up and comes up with smart plays?

Seeing as our backs have struggled mainly (including kick chases), I would think a backline player would be the most appropriate, such as Wade or 'George'.

i agree, Wagon is a pathetic captain, and ive been saying for a while that Hopkins should be captain while Cayless is out, but i wouldn't mind McKinnon or Hindy to have that honour either, another option would be........Witt

I only mentioned Wade because his form has been sensational, and Thorman because he revs up the team and talks a lot.

No offence to Wagon, who I think is playing OK at lock, but we need an inspirational and motivational captain.

Witt could be great too.

after Cayless retirees or (i hope not) changes clubs, i think Witt would make a good captain, sort of like Andrew Johns etc

I agree.

Witt is talkative, isn't he?

So, guys and gals.

Who do you think in our current team has the best combination of talking and inspiration? Because Hindy is quiet yet inspirational, and Vella talks a fair bit in play but isn't very inspirational.

if i was brian smith ( #-o ) id have Hopkins as captain, because he shows passion, otherwise Thorman sounds like a pretty good idea

I'm jumping on the "Thorman for Captain" bandwagon - he talks more than anyone.

But to be honest - captain is really only a (C) next to your name - the whole team has to take on the role of talker - it will get them all more into the game

I agree. In reality, the (C) means nothing.

But in closer examination, one can see that without Cayless, we are a very different team.

It could go to anyone. I just think a player who is in form, who leads by example and revs up his teammates may be a partial solution to the team's woes.

Like as good as Grothe is, I think he's too quiet for the captaincy; likewise Hindy.

I actually just thought of something:

Our captain also needs a cool head and good people skills; we have some hot-heads in our team and some people who may actually get in trouble speaking to the ref.

There'd be nothing worse than our stand-in captain being sin-binned for dissent!

Sorry, but if I was B Smith I wouldn't have Hopkins in my team at all. Yeah he had a great streak going there for a little while last year but since then nada. Can't live off a few games forever otherwise we'd still be stuck with Kusto.

It never ceases to amaze me how people keep pushing Hopkin's barrow, no matter how poorly he plays or how may stupid penalties he gives away simply because he's "passionate". Then on the other hand, you turn around and bag Matt Petersen, an equally average, but passionate player.

I think it comes down to who is going to be more talkative behind the posts when the opposition goal kicker is lining up a conversion.

Vella, IMHO, is the next best.
