Hughes' FOURTH county ton

Second ton in his second county game. Great decision to NOT pick him for the ODI's and get limited batting because it would have been very tempting to pick him.

The selectors have been making a few too many correct decisions lately, won't be long until they slip up.

Phillip Hughes smashes another county ton to match Andrew Symonds' record

Test opener Phillip Hughes has become only the second Australian player ever to record centuries in his first two matches in the English County Championship.
Hughes scored 139 for Middlesex in the first innings of their current match against Leicestershire on Wednesday to follow up his 118 against Glamorgan in the previous match.

Hughes' hundred against Glamorgan was also his first ever innings at Lords.

The only Australian to achieve this feat before Hughes was Andrew Symonds in 1995.

Symonds scored 161 not out for Gloucestershire against Surrey followed by 102 not out for Gloucestershire against Somerset.

Hughes also made 74 as Middlesex thrashed Scotland by 162 runs in their Friends Provident Trophy one-day match at Lord's earlier in the week.

Other Australian batsmen have scored consecutive hundreds in their first two innings in England but were either representing an Australian side or, as in former international player Michael Bevan's case, one match was not a County Championship match.

**edit 18/05**

Hughes scored 119 off 112 as Middlesex scored their highest ever One Day total of 7/341.

But .... but ... but Emil1989 told us all that Hughes would struggle mightily in England AND we all know that Emil1989 has NEVER made a foolish comment in all his life :)

LOL @ Emil1989, the kid is a run machine, good to see he is getting some experience on Pommy wickets. Playing in Dubai would be doing him no favours.

I think he by far one of our best ODI prospects, he was also very good in the domestic 20/20 and one of the reasons NSW won it.

But I guess at his age we need to be careful of burn out, but he'll no doubt be in the ODI squad at some stage

I'd prefer he learned the ropes of Test cricket first, though. Placing the burden of the double at such a young age and with his international inexperience would be too risky for the kid. Haddin/Clarke/Watson/Marsh when fit, that will be fine for a year/2 years.

Maybe blood him slowly next home season?

His form will be demand selection in all forms of the game next home season no doubt. A freak.

If there is a position in the ODI side then let him have it, but now certainly wasn't the time. We need to find if there is any positions open plus Hughes needed to learn the English conditions.

Division Two
Phillip Hughes' third hundred in four Championship innings was the highlight at The Oval as Middlesex reached 200 for 2 in reply to Surrey's 388. Hughes' 134 not out took his aggregate to 452 for twice out in four innings, and he was typically brutal in his driving and cutting. His most uncomfortable moment came when Andre Nel, who had been pulled away by Hughes with immense power, sent down an accidental high full toss. The batsman was angered, but Nel immediately apologised and at the end of the over put his arm around Hughes. Earlier, Mark Ramprakash, easily old enough to be Hughes' father, only added seven to his overnight 126 before miscuing Steven Finn to mid-off, but Chris Schofield's 47, made either side of a bad-light break, ensured Surrey's innings didn't completely fall away.

Ramprakash must be due for a test recall, even he is piling on the runs

Haha, Ramprakash. I was a fan of his, back in the days. I remember a test at the MCG where he hit a ball that looked for certain to go to the boundary and he just stood there and admired it, pulled up short and one of the Australian's chased hard and they only got a single  Summed him up pretty well.

Mark Ramprakash was another Graeme Hick. Absolutely devastating first class player, amazing record, but just continually failed at test level.

Ramprakash continues to rip up in county cricket, he was awesome last season as well. Hes England's version of Hodge/Dussey although probably harsh on Hodge who averages 58 in Test cricket.
