Hunt Extends Dragons Contract Until 2016

Thursday 2 August 2012 3:50 PM

St George Illawarra Dragons prop Dan Hunt has today agreed to a three-year contract extension that will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of 2016.
The Dapto junior made his first-grade debut for the Dragons against the Gold Coast Titans in the opening round of the 2007 season and has played 120 NRL games to date.
Hunt, 25, is a graduate of the Dragons development programs who played an integral role for the Dragons Under 20’s 2005 Premiership winning team that played in the National Youth Competition under then NYC coach and now Head Coach Steve Price.
“I’m pleased to have the opportunity to sign for a further four years with the Dragons and appreciate everything they have done for me,” said Hunt.
“All the players, coaching staff and the Club as a whole have helped me develop into a better player so it was the natural thing for me to do.
“Playing for the Dragons was always my goal growing up as a local junior in the Illawarra region and hopefully one day I can end my career with them too.
Dragons CEO Peter Doust is pleased with the contract extension of Hunt and his decision to continue at the Club.
“It’s great knowing that a local junior such as Dan has opted to stay with our Club and it highlights our commitment to the development of our local juniors,” said Doust.
“Dan conducted himself professionally throughout the entire negotiations and I look forward to watching him further come into his own as a leader within the Dragons team and forward pack.”

Well deserved from Dan, great to hear him talk so passionately about the club, these types of players are great, he has played well over the past couple of months so it's a great signing

Happy with this resigning, hes not a star forward, but we need competent first graders like Hunt who get the job done without too much fuss, hopefully providing some room under the cap in the process.

i am pleased to keep him as part of our squad, however i see him better suited to a bench role with Merrin, and have a fit weyman and another purchase as starters..
IMO Hunts performances were better when he came on after 20 when the hard stuff was done - i feel he added more impact this way.
i also hope his salary wasnt upgraded too much... we dont want to increase the wages of "good but not great" players (especially props) and thus further cause issues with recruitment and salary cap management..

Was this announced at the Red V forum?

If the answer is no, then why not?

nah I don't think it was mentioned, but it wasn't intentionally withheld. Peter Doust went through all the finalised re-signings like Moz, Mez, Kingy and there were specific questions about some in-progress guyss like Marketo - I think Bubsy may have gotten lost in between.

He played a pivotal role in our 2010 premiership...by sitting out half the season including the GF. I think he has a big heart but I really do not rate his impact and he has a nasty habit of dropping the ball at either the wrong time or the wrong end of the field. There are worse players running around but I do not think he is big enough to be anything more than an average first grader. I guess it could be worse...he has played reasonably well in the last few weeks.

With respect sass, it's a big re-signing. Announcing it last night would have been pretty good. Don't know who runs these things.

The media release got to us this afternoon. Thanks. We'll do our bit here. But let me know if you need a Master of Ceremonies or Sargeant of the Arms... ;-)

I wouldn't disagree with you, three years is solid! announcing it today rather than yesterday was only because the official aspects that we need under NRL rules weren't sorted til today
