2 wins in a row, fine sunday afternoon, not overly hot, playing a top team....5k is woeful

I guess the other 18k or so we had a year or two ago have all moved hey frederick

It does sh*t me though that if we do start getting decent crowds all of these bandwagoners will suddenly know everything about the jets and call themselves fans. It is the people that turn up all the time like myself and my son that are the real fans

The Jetscum have done well against two teams (Sydney and Adelaide) who have been playing pretty crap, and then against Gold Coast who, like the Mariners, are as hot and cold as Wigan in the EPL.

Said it before and I'll say it again: Newcastle is only hard-core for Rugby League, anything else is just a fad. The shambles the Jetscum are off the field doesn't help though- they'd need someone like Todd Greenberg to come in and put a broom through the place!

We'll monster you as an early Valentines pressie in Feb ;-)

And JD... people don't care about the Jets, even when they're winning nowadays. Something is fatally flawed about football in Newcastle IMO. The promotion is terrible... and without stirring up a CCM/Jets debate - we have a smaller population and are somehow managing to easily average more than your club. In fact if I'm not mistaken our lowest crowd at Gosford is still higher than your highest at EAS. Which is a pretty depressing stat...

I hope you draw 7 or 8k for the Fury because on form you deserve it.
I'd just love to know where the same people who were part of the 14k crowd average in 07/08 have gone. Surely there haven't been 8,000 deaths in Newcastle in two years, unless there's a mass murderer out there that I haven't come across yet

There's still plenty of room on the bandwagon and the finals are rapidly approaching ...

Oh really? So 23k and 24k crowds (yes, they were two years ago, but still) are classified as no one?
 It's a pathetic situation when you've got no choice but to trot out crowd figures from two years ago

No, they all just came to their senses and realised there's no point in paying to watch a pathetic team that no-one even recognises anymore

Well they don't just disappear. The team were a shambles last year, culminating in the wooden spoon. All those fans they worked so hard to get on board after we won the comp disappeared, now they've just got to get them back. They are around, I guarantee it.

Oh really? Do you know that for a fact?

Fred is right about one thing, all the "hero" players fans could invest in disappeared, particularly Griffo. The only recognisable name left is Thompson and even he's on his way out.

The worst of all is the lack of marketing, actual or viral, that the Jets bother doing. You know when there's a Knights game on if you drive around Newcastle - you wouldn't know the Jets are playing.

The budget the FFA allocate to each club to market is pisspoor.

I may not know a whole lot about soccer, and while I don't particularly like the Jets I do follow them a lot more closely than you'd think, and Tim is right here. Look at the squad that won the championship two years ago...Bridge, Musialik, Durante, Covic, Griffiths x2, North, Holland...it was a great team, and all those players had been integral parts of the team for years (most since the A-League inception, if memory serves correctly which it probably doesn't). Since that victory, though, Con has lost the f**king plot. All those players have moved on, and have since been replaced by utter, utter rubbish (I mean, honestly, Ben Kennedy? Ange Costanzo? Sash Petrovski?). The players from the championship victory, if they were walking around Westfield in plain clothes, they'd be instantly recognisable, such was their stature in the Newcastle community. All the new players brought in to replace them...christ they could be wearing great big neon lights that say "HEY LOOK AT ME, I PLAY FOR THE JETS!", and I'd still struggle to put a name to the face. The club is an embarrassment on the Newcastle sporting landscape.

Fred - I think you'll find Kennedy's injury has allowed a far better keeper to step up and Sash barely gets game time most weeks. I don't see why you hate on Costanzo who, on his day, is still one of the most reliable defenders going around. I know I'd rather have him shoring up the back line than 75% of the so called defenders in the A-League.

Yeah, definitely not rubbish if they struggled to make the starting side in a team coming dead last...

And an embarressment to the sporting landscape....now that is f**kn rubbish right there
The Jets ARE an embarrassment to the Newcastle sporting landscape...run worse than the Knights, struggle to attract sponsors, and can't hang onto, or even attract, quality players

While I do tend to agree with what you're saying, it's the nature of the beast and the nature of winning a championship. It's nie on impossible to keep every single member of your team. Just ask the Melbourne Storm. It's just that some clubs/teams are better at enticing their players to stay than others.

On the topic of the team at the moment, again, I agree with what you're saying, but I can draw parallels (without making this a whole Jets-Knights debate) to the Knights 18 months ago. Smith put the broom through the club and brought in these out-of-towners to don the town's colours. Only towards the end of the just-gone NRL season did we start to see those people come back who appeared to be disenfranchised with the club when Smith told those players their services are no longer required. It's the same underlying factor with the Jets, just on a larger scale ...

Out of those players you mentioned, the only real ones we "lost" were Bridge, Musialik and Durante and that was purely because of Con's pig-headedness and his refusal to use third-party payments that, I bet, the Victory used to keep the vast majority of their squad in tact when they also won the championship. We were never going to keep Covic, both Griffiths brothers, North or Holland because they realised their careers were heading down a path that would take them overseas and a more realistic shot at Socceroo selection.

lol - and that would be your bias opinion with no real backing to prove it. Take off your red and blue glasses.

Don't see the Knights doing too much better in any of those factors...

Dumbest

Argument

Ever...

I follow rugby league like a religion - I live in Newcastle at the moment. But if I saw most knights players walking around in plain clothes, I couldn't name 90% of them...

Missed this bit - free world, free speech and all that garbage is an American concept that has no bearing in Australia. You can't do what you want when you want- wasn't that why you got fired from your last job?

Put it simply, stop being a keyboard hero. If you don't like the JEts, don't post in a football/soccer forum.

gtfo and grow the f**k up.
