Slater doesn't have the greatest kick return metres and he is the best player in the world cause of his ability to link down the business end of the field, He does what is needed in his own half defusing situations.
Kearney needs to take one out of the Bellamy coaching and apply the Bellamy effect, Something that is a chance of happening at Souths under Maguire with Inglis, Luke, Peats at dummy half (Smith type player) and the halfback Madge brings with him.
Storm have their link man who is the Best Fullback in the World, Isn't a traditional big kick returns player but is always in the right place at the right time. Luke Burt certainly isn't the best fullback in the world but he always seems to be in the right place at the right time and has a really cool head in pressure situations, something Jarryd struggles with; especially positioning to defuse attacking kicks and defensive reads are poor at times as well.
Cameron Smith who is so good at cleaning around the rucks and just exposes weaknesses in the opposition both attack and defense and is one of the masterminds in the game.
The Acquisition of Sandow is an improvement of what you's have. But his game needs tweaking to suit Parra's needs. He needs a halves coach behind him who will teach him how to control situations and improve his kicking game and turn him a lean bit towards a traditional Cronk style halfback without changing what he is all about.
Jarryd Hayne could be the Gareth Widdop of the Eels, Let him roam free with little responsibility and give McGuire and Sandow most of the kicking duties. Hayne plays his best when everything is off his shoulders.
You's will eventually have to Upgrade McGuire but he is good for the time being, Has instincts of a halfback and is versatile as well as having a good work-rate in defense.
1. Burt 6. Hayne 7. Sandow 9. McGuire
Having said that, the club needs a good old fashioned cleanout! and attention is needed heavily to the outside backs as well.
