... That Burt has to stay at fullback. Having his support play up the middle gives us a new dimension. I never thought I would say it but we have no choice. That means Hayne to 5/8, maitua to lock. That would give us so much more spark. Burt can can chime in when he needs to and does a good job of.

Not saying this should be a long term thing, just to get us out of the crap this season.

Worth a try.

Forward Pass,

i agree, i truly think Burt's best position in this team is at Fullback and have said so many times before and truly - Hayne is wasted at Fullback, because he does nto play well enough as a Fullback

problem is, he wont play 5/8 and wont be told to play 5/8, so i am actually thinking the centres for Hayne and Burt to Fullback - and not just because Dicky Stuart is considering playing Hayne at Centre in SOO, its more to do with getting more out of Burt and Hayne at the same time and - much like SOO - covering for injuries in the centres and strengthening the Centres at the same time. Mind you with Dicky maybe playing him at Centre, he might actually take to the idea because he seems happy now that Dicky likes him again ha ha ha

mind you he needs some ball from his halves to play effectively in the centres.....hmm, Humble and Morts, let's start fresh

Not gunna happen.

which though Gronk? Hayne to 5/8, or Hayne to Centre, or just both??

and if you're right about either or both (which i think you probably are), this may just be part of the problem at Parramatta - are the players running the ship, or is the Coach? Hayne said recently aroudn SOO 1 time that SK has openly suggested to him that he should play 5/8 and Hayne has pretty much just said nah, no way man......bottom line is: he's not a GREAT fullback and is at times wasted there. He is the player and SK is (reportedly) the coach

I just shake my head at the absurdness of posts on here.

firstly, our most overused attacking structure in the sweeping man (fullback) out the back. Burt doesnt have the ball playing skills , nor the ability to bust through the line to trouble the defence. Hence we have scored 0 and 12 in the last two games he played there.

secondly, his kick returns are rubbish.

thirdly, if he didnt score that try supporting Walker that stands out in memory would you even say his support play was that great last night?

Slater doesn't have the greatest kick return metres and he is the best player in the world cause of his ability to link down the business end of the field, He does what is needed in his own half defusing situations.

Kearney needs to take one out of the Bellamy coaching and apply the Bellamy effect, Something that is a chance of happening at Souths under Maguire with Inglis, Luke, Peats at dummy half (Smith type player) and the halfback Madge brings with him.

Storm have their link man who is the Best Fullback in the World, Isn't a traditional big kick returns player but is always in the right place at the right time. Luke Burt certainly isn't the best fullback in the world but he always seems to be in the right place at the right time and has a really cool head in pressure situations, something Jarryd struggles with; especially positioning to defuse attacking kicks and defensive reads are poor at times as well.

Cameron Smith who is so good at cleaning around the rucks and just exposes weaknesses in the opposition both attack and defense and is one of the masterminds in the game.

The Acquisition of Sandow is an improvement of what you's have. But his game needs tweaking to suit Parra's needs. He needs a halves coach behind him who will teach him how to control situations and improve his kicking game and turn him a lean bit towards a traditional Cronk style halfback without changing what he is all about.

Jarryd Hayne could be the Gareth Widdop of the Eels, Let him roam free with little responsibility and give McGuire and Sandow most of the kicking duties. Hayne plays his best when everything is off his shoulders.

You's will eventually have to Upgrade McGuire but he is good for the time being, Has instincts of a halfback and is versatile as well as having a good work-rate in defense.

1. Burt 6. Hayne 7. Sandow 9. McGuire

Having said that, the club needs a good old fashioned cleanout! and attention is needed heavily to the outside backs as well.

We can't have Burt at fullback, because he won't contest a bomb.

If only we could transplant Burt's footy brain into some of our other backs! He is a thinker, but unfortunately doesn't have enough physical presence.

His kick returns were actually very good last night. Kind of surprised me and makes me question as to why he doesn't hit the ball up like that when he's playing on the wing.

Very good post and interesting to hear the perspective of an outsider looking in.

And this is why it can never happen. We were lucky last night that Brisbane didn't manage any pressure bombs in the centre of the field. All the ones he took weren't contested.
That and we have one of the best fullbacks in the world already

You keep on believing that mate!. He is a good player but is a horrible fullback in my honest opinion. He can't do even the little things right. His reads in defense are appalling as is his positioning from attacking kicks in defence and his tackling is very plain at times too!. Dead-set Wesser looks in better form then Hayne at the moment. At least he is good at positioning himself most the time in defense and supports like a fullback and makes clean breaks.

He doesn't link with players like a fullback should, I don't know if there's miscommunication with him and his halves or what not but to me he is just a stop-gap playing there without any real understanding of the basics of that position.

Hayne to five-eighth is easily the best solution for Parramatta, He gets his hands on the ball more then he does now and his role can be less of a responsibility if Sandow and McGuire at hooker do most of the kicking and controlling of the play. Less things to think about, Better Jarryd!, He is a talent with everything to offer but doesn't resemble a fullback for mine, Too many flaws.

guys I also thought Hayne was suited for 5/8.

Recently however, Ive changed my opinion. At rep level I play 5/8. A few weeks back I was moved to fullback and in my egotistical opinion, am carving up. Personally, there is a huge difference when playing both positions and defending at fullback allows much more energy for me to attack tired forwards,I have recently score several tries just by following someone on the inside and making a beeline through a hole.

However I'm playing outside two good halves, and our halves are ... So yeah my argument is kinda invalid

Hayne is a victim of his own success. And is forced to overplay his hand because we have useless halves. Often he plays fullback, halfback, and 5'8th at once which must be bloody confusing. He chimes in when he shouldn't just because the rest of the players cannot get their job done. That makes him focusing on one position impossible.

Was this supposed to be a post commenting on Hayne or just an excuse to brag about you playing rep level footy and carving it up? ;-)
